Face lift octy vs pre face lift (Vrs)

I was away for the weekend at the rally so popped into the Skoda dealer down south as it was only a few mile off course and I knew they stocked new Vrs ,s in most colour bar red which is no loss, I wanted to see a white face lift in person and it was nice but the blue stood out more as a Vrs I think,

We get good spec on a Vrs here but the bad thing we Do get is 17" wheels and they look even smaller on the facelift as the facelift seems to sit quiet high,

Why does the facelift sit way higher than the pre facelift ?

My 07 blue outside the dealer looked better in this instance lol

Also I have to say the platin grey looked nice.

I prefer the m2 than the plastic surgeoned one(Facelift) , though that has nicer center console, but horrid steering wheel, the FL will date more as when the Octavia 3 is out if it follows the lead of the Mission L as it looks more like a M2 with a more aggressive angular style again .I did not change mine for a Facelift because it is far too expensive for an eight year old car now.The Facelift is lower than a standard M2

Having owned both I prefer the FL both on looks - I always thought the headlights on the pre FL didn't look agressive enough, but also because the build quality seems a bit better. The suspension is improved - better ride quality. The dash is better and ........well its a later car and therefore worth more secondhand.

Would I look down on a pre FL owner - not a chance - I loved mine and the only people I look down on a morons who can't drive and gimps with stereos worth more than the car they are in :-)

I also like prefer the straight lines of a pre FL .... but I will own a FL VRS or Superb (CR170 4x4 Elegance) next...so not averse to the FL headlamps.

Really? I didn't know this, do you know what changed suspension wise pre-FL to FL?

With the TSI VRS there was the engine change to the EA888 from the EA113.

The car is slightly lighter, slightly more aerodynamic which resulted in the top speed going from 240 to 242 kph, ie 149 to 150 mph.

Also heard the suspension was changed to a bit more technical system but do not know the exact details.

Engine is a little noiser with the chain drive compared to the belt but nothing too intrusive.

Interesting thread! My wife's father had a pre FL vRS and I loved it. When I decided to buy new in 2010, I was actually disappointed that they'd changed the front lights.

I love the looks of the FL now though. I think they say that the more you look at something you like, the more you like the way it looks! Certainly true when it comes to people!

When I see pre-FL vRSs on the road, especially with well looked after ones, I always think that they look great! Love race blue on the pre-FL!

Wouldn't swap mine though. Absolutely love it. Just came back from a long weekend in North Somerset. Car performed brilliantly as usual. Rock solid and fast on the motorway, lots of fun on the twisties at the other end. Love the interior too - I have the leather, Columbus and curtain bags for the kids......

I normally change every 18 months or 2 years. Not this time!

Same shocks, springs and bushes. I think they may ride better because they are newer and have less wear, but they have no extra sound deadning either so can't see how when both brand new the fl and pre fl have any ride/comfort difference.

No idea what if anything has changed in the suspension however the FL does ride better - I've owned both from zero miles and there is definitely a difference so age / mileage difference doesn’t come into it neither does any placebo effect.

There may of been a change in shock absorber suppliers over the years, maybe the newer ones are softer, but all parts will interchange so will give the same feel/comfort.

Well the facelift is deffinatly higher at the front iv seen a few and looks even more obvious with the 17 inch wheels on them.

I think that's down to the front wing design making the arch gap appear larger, the actual ground clearance from road to chassis will be equal on both.
