Another Thread about....Oil...

Had a chat with Tim at Opie suggested switching to 5W-40 because of the high consumption of my engine. Will do it once I have used the remaining 3 litres of Halfords finest VAG long life oil....so that'll be about Sunday afternoon then.

Got me thinking, and wondering what effect the higher viscosity will have on engine friction/drag and fuel economy. I had a surge problem a few weeks ago when the level was low (but above the warning light minimum) and the low pressure light flicked on during a particularly quick RAB. I am now meticulous about keeping the level close to max, and never below half full, but I guess a thicker oil would help should this ever happen again.
