Hybrid/Replacement turbo

Featured Replies

My G60 hybrid is on it's way out.........How much is this going to cost to replace, and does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement, or where to go near Kent?

Jabbasport, no where near Kent but worth every mile to travel

G60? I thought the G60 was a supercharged engine?

I'm only going on the invoices i have as work not carried out during my ownership; i know turbo was supplied and fitted at Jabba

Depends if you can get yours rebuilt?

£5-600

New hybrid £1000+

I'm hoping it can be rebuilt, as no way can I afford a new hybrid....have emailed a few companies but I guess you have to really trust them, as I do not have a clue how damaged the turbo is......no smoke AT ALL not even at start up, but mechanic has said following a vac test there is an internal leak.......So wish I understood more as I get a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of money!! Any recommendations on who I can get to have a look at the turbo?

And further to this, I do not have within the history receipts for the pd150 hybrid.....how can I identify which turbo model I have fitted?

What issue do you have with the car to suspect turbo?

What issue do you have with the car to suspect turbo?

The other day : 15 miles in to a 20 mile drive, and I lost the turbo. There was no smoke, no strange noises, quick inspection under bonnet and couldnt see anything untoward re pipes just complete loss of any turbo power or noise. Car still drove but with less power. I allowed the car to idle for a few minutes, switched ignition off and started her up again; everything was fine. On the return journey, again after around 18 miles the same thing happened; I followed the same procedure as above, and everything was back to normal again. Took to Skoda dealer, who performed vac test and said there was an internal diaphragm leak. He also said a slight loss of power at point turbo pipe meets intercooler underneath and that the MAP sensor at some point has been siliconed in place rather than bolted.

I haven't had any problem since, took her out today and drove it hard up to red line in all gears with no issues whatsoever. Turbo has done around 50,000 miles. Never owned a turbo car or Tdi, let alone a hybrid but it sounds fine (big turbo sound but guessing that is normal) No smoke whatsoever at any point of driving and nothing on diagnostics. I'm just worried as I know its huge expense if it is the turbo and I'm not very clued up on engines :-(

Turbo should be fine! Id be looking at ensuring all intercooler piping is bolted tight! The leak on the intercooler pipework cause cause 'limp mode' if its leaking a lot

Limp mode can also be caused by a faulty map sensor and as its already siliconed in id look at getting a new one fitted securely anyways and take it from there

Other point could be turbo veins clogged up but as its a hybrid id guess it would be fine as i can see it getting used properly

Thank you o much for your advice, this site really is invaluable to someone like myself with little knowledge......MAP sensor is going to be replaced ASAP as I don't like the idea of it being "stuck" in place.....whoever fitted it IMO couldn't be bothered to perhaps re-thread the two bolts or whatever. I had a check (as good as you can in the rain with no jack) around the pipework but hopefully the guy who looks at my car will be back in the area soon so he can have a proper search around. I nearly cried a day after getting her when the top hose popped off (black smoke, you know the one!!) thinking I'd blown the turbo!!
