power steering problems

Featured Replies

hi all.

have a 2000 fabia 1.4 mpi, i had to change the power steering rack a few months ago and thought all was well until last week the power steering light came on and has not gone off since also the rack has now started to leak below where the steering colum joins the rack.the car drives great and the steering is not heavy only a little when parking.

does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong when the ligh wont go off.understand i will have to get a new rack.

The power steering light could be indicating low fluid level in the power steering reservoir or a fault with the steering angle sensor on the rack. As you have a leak I would check the fluid level first. The reservoir is in under the battery case so it's battery out and then case out. Green screw top lid with a little dipstick attached to remove to check the fluid level. Top up if needed but get on and sort the leak pronto. At least if you loose your power steering you don't loose your steering. It just becomes very heavy at parking speeds.
