Trip computer lies

Featured Replies

Hi all drove my mk1 fabia vrs from Norfolk to Manchester last night. I took it nice an easy according to the trip computer I averaged 56 MPH

at 76 MPG, total distance was 170 miles and I used a 1/4 of a tank from full. Anybody else had such wildly optimistic claims from the ecu?

Have you filled up again to check how much fuel you actually used? If you haven't, everything is pure supposition. Working on a quarter of a tank is 11.25 litres it works out at approx 69mpg, about 10% discrepancy if that's the amount of fuel used.

Yeah worked out at 56mpg, in the end so big lies from the computer. I can't complain with that mpg 70+ is never going to happen

Not impossible to have an accurate ECU :)

Not even trying to be economical. 70mph just on cruise control.

What the trip computer showed 3/4 way through journey.

After a bit more motorway then some stop start town driving. Actually calculated with fuelly.

Assuming full is actually full then you need to fill it again to accurately calculate your mpg, things like wheel choice down to tyre wear will affect the computers accuracy to a greater or lesser extent but get an actual figure and work out how far out it is, you can correct it with VCDS from memory if you feel that it warrants it.

Remember late model vRSs have totally inaccurate software in any case...
