Hey everybody!

Registered a couple of weeks ago so I thought i'd better make a post.

I've had my Octavia vRS for approx 18 months now and love it! The best combination of performance, cost and boot space (i'm a mountaineer) I could find, after a near-miss with an Audi S4 i was in love with.....

I'm interested in making a few changes to my car, but not for a while (lack of cash, warranty fears etc) and this looks a great place to get all the info I need, so there'll be plenty of questions to come - when I can find the time.

Anyway, my first question:

I've seen a quite a few websites that offer tuning for the 1.8t engine, and most of these end with a similar power output regardless of whether the starting point was a 150bhp 1.8t, or the 180bhp vRS lump. Now I know that the vRS engine has an intercooler, and I thought the std 1.8t didn't (correct me if i'm wrong) - how come the vRS engine isn't capable of more than the std 1.8t - is the orignal difference between them purely down to software???

anyway, best wishes to everyone,

Rooster.

Hello and Welcome :wave23d:

I'm afraid I have no idea about your question :o but I'm sure someone will be along with an answer sooner or later !

Welcome to Briskoda. There is a FAQ here which describes the differences between the 4 1.8T engines in the Octavia. The 3 current VVT DBW 1.8T engines are tuneable to much the same figure by remapping, with any differences being down to the differing exhaust systems. As standard the only significant difference between the three is the ECU map for the vRS.

I've i'd have known that when I bought it, maybe i'd have gone for the 4x4 and a re-map!

Thanks.

Welcome Rooster  The 4x4 does indeed have good tuning potential - although most members that have done it have also uprated suspension and brakes :)
