Ever get the feeling......

Featured Replies

 Just had my 1.4 TDi Fabia in for its first service. The dealer in question was very friendly and efficient and all that but when I got home and looked through the service checklist thingy I had a strange feeling they'd just run down the list and ticked the boxes without actually reading (or perhaps even doing?) the checks.

They've made a couple of minor mistakes on the checklist, now it could be that they are genuine mistakes but it doesn't really inspire confidence. Of course when I go back to them and ask for an explanation they're bound to say it was just an oversight and that I shouldn't worry...

What to do, what to do!?

They usually do the form after they've finished the job, otherwise the form ends up covered in oily fingerprints.

If there are any mistakes or omissions, go back to the dealer, ask for the service manager, and calmly explain your problem. Ask for evidence that the omitted items were really done, and, if they can't produce it, ask for them to be redone.

Don't lose your temper, stay calm, and you'll be surprised how helpful they might be.

Planning to go back after work today and see what they've got to say for themselves... The items in question are:

1) Top of the form they've written 1.9TDi. Its a 1.4TDi, not a big deal but doesn't inspire me wth the confidence that the mechanic who did the service actually filled in the sheet.

2) Drain fuel filter (Diessel Models Only): They've marked it as N/A. Why?

3) Lubricate door straps (Not Fabia): They've ticked it as being done, when I don't even think I have door straps. Whatever they are?

Individually none of theses are a big deal but like I said, it's a matter of having the faith that now and in future they've done what they claim.

2) Drain fuel filter (Diessel Models Only): They've marked it as N/A. Why?

If it's a 10K service' date=' the fuel filter is only drained if you have been using biodiesel, otherwise it gets gone at 20K.

3) Lubricate door straps (Not Fabia): They've ticked it as being done, when I don't even think I have door straps. Whatever they are?

They are the little metal bars that stop the doors opening too far. There is usually some grease on them so they don't graunch when you open the door.
