Fuel Price Rise

Featured Replies

Are we all up to speed ??? did you know prices are to go up 16pence a Gallon on the 1st of August. Fair Fuel UK

16.344 pence actually so about £1.60 for a Fabia and £2 for an Octavia.

Yes as I am ex Customs and work in the customs, excise, CAP, Anti-Dumping, Countervailing, VAT, col fizzing tax avoidance field.

Following Tory Minster's advice and buy the fuel you need for the rest of year and store it in Jerry can's in your garage perhaps.

Don't think they'll do it. They'll make a big story out of cancelling the rise then it'll get added on by inflation/oil companies/evil fairies within a few weeks.

I have read that the current price of fuel should have dropped by about 5p to take account of the wholesale price. That drop might happen the week before the price rise if they do go through with it.

They could just add the duty to petrol cars and not diesel as I have not seen a petrol delivery truck, van, ohhh that would hurt. The Tescos 95 Octane is about 6 pence per litre cheaper than petrol and 99 Octane for the Fab is 2p litre cheaper than diesel so it would even up the prices, might have to buy a wiesel then, maybe a 320 eff dynamics.

The last time I bought fuel in Gallons was in the states last year and it was a lot cheaper than over here.

There will be an increase of 3p per litre + vat, which will make the increase 3.6p per litre.

If we're talking gallons I'm currently paying £6.68 per gallon for diesel.

With a bit of luck the tanker drivers will be on strike and we won't be able to buy any.

It is ridiculous, how can they even think of putting it up again?!

We have no hope anyway, unless a massive protest comes along but even then they won't reduce it.

Trouble is, the petrol stations are too slow in reducing the price when the market drops, and by the time they do its gone back up 2p :(

Cost me £1.49.9 per litre for V-Power petrol the other day - had I known the vRS was fussy on its fuel i'd have gone for something else! Next car will not be petrol as I do naff all mileage but I like to have something fast!

Rock and Hard place springs to mind...

Isn't that the perfect situation to have a petrol?! You need to do lots of miles for diesel to be cheaper to run.

I doubt I'd have bought the TFSI had I know just how fast petrol would go up. I'm keeping my eyes open for other options right now.

I won't pay for V-power anymore. If I'm at Shell their 95 is perfectly fine. At the supermarket I'll buy 99RON as their standard gas is ****e.

Was looking at a BMW F800ST bike the other day. Owners are reporting real world mpg of 75+ some 90+. OK tyres and servicing are dear but tax, parking, ins and petrol, depreciation are all cheaper. Bus for bad days.

Trouble is my vRS only likes V-Power and kicks up a fuss on 95 (apparently) While I can afford it and for the little miles I do, I shall run on the good stuff but it still hurts the wallet!

matt - what I meant was it'd be nice to have a high powered petrol car that didn't specify 98 on the fuel cap...

You don't have to do more miles for diesel to be 'better value' to run.... Generally the higher fuel prices go... the better value for money you get out of diesel over petrol (because the difference in petrol and diesel stays more or less constant) If that makes any sense :)

Ohhhhh I get ya!

Mine specifies 95RON on the filler cap and it's a 3.0 Superchaged V6.

Lol not high performance enough :)

Seriously though it says 98 then (95)

Hmmmm. Wonder why yours says that and mine doesn't.

A US gallon is only 3.79 litres against our UK gallon which is 4.54 so US gallon is only 83.5% of a UK one which is why US cars sound so bad on fuel but actually are not.

Yes, I am fully aware that US gallons are smaller than UK gallons. I was pointing out that in the UK fuel is sold in litres and not gallons, otherwise I would have stated that I'm paying £6 13s 7d for a gallon of derv.

When I starting driving I paid 37p for a gallon of petrol around 8p a litre.

When we filled the hire car in the states it took about 16 US gallons (13.3 UK gallons) so about 60 litres for around £32.
