Catch can vs lights

Featured Replies

Guys... A quickie, is there any risk of light popping on if i go for putting a catch can in ????

:D

If you do the installation as per other members have done, then the short answer is no.

Do lots of reading up on posts. there are loads on here. Rob (New Zealand) is a good starting point as he has also created a schematic).

I fitted mine on 07/10/2010 with no ill effects.

You will find that in the winter months you will collect more water in it (can internally warm+ cold air on external body = dew point and internal condensation), summer months virtually nil (speaking personally about my car others might see more trapped oil mist).

Strange coincidence tho, I emptied mine on wednesday of this week and got quite a lot out, see below, (last done in December 2011).

In my opinion a worthwhile mod if you intend to keep the car.

what did you make it out of??

I went to a small coachbuilders near me, they didnt have any sheet aluminium offcuts, so I bought a 500mm square offcut of aluminium floor chequer plate (2.5mm thick) then cut it to the shape I wanted and removed the ribbing using a rotary file in my drill (the other side is flat already).

Before I bent it up I heated it up on the gas hob then quenched it in cold water. This has the effect of making the aluminium easy to bend and reduces the risk of crack formation.

(NB: As you heat it up, using a match or small bit of wood try to write on it, when its at the right temp' you will see a black mark appear), then just chuck it in the water. It will return to full strength after about an hour.

I've had one for a couple of years without problem, as long as you recirculate it or block the hole into the intake. Mines a diesel so I get loads of oily crap build up in it.
