Are the front and rear brake pistons screw ins?

Featured Replies

Hi just looking to help a mate by fitting his brakes for him but wasn't sure if either the front or the backs are screw in type or push in pistons? It's an 06 1.6 fsi.

Also when I tried to order the discs they gave me about 4 choices of size?

Any help much appreciated

I think the rear are screw in types and the fronts are push in, but I'm not exactly sure as I've never worked on my brakes.

There are a few disc sizes available depending on transmission/wheel size etc. My Haynes manual lists all the discs for for diesel models, but does not cover petrol models so I can't say what the 1.6 fsi uses.

Front should be push in, but a wind back tool doesn't hurt :)

Rears are certainly wind in, as the handbrake is operated off them.

Cheer up, there's a special tool made for it, available for under £20, look on vwspares.co.uk

You'll also need an m14 spline head to remove the rear caliper carriers, also available on that website for about 3 quid.

Also if you go to the eurocarparts website and put the car's reg plate in it should tell you exactly which size discs and pads you need.

There's also a 25% discount code floating around the sponsors section here.
