tire bulge

Featured Replies

ok so I had a brand new continental sport 2 fitted about 1000 miles ago and it has developed a bulge in the tire wall. I have already put my space saver on boo. But was just wondering if I could claim a new tire from continental as its the 2nd new tire ill have needed since November... From the same wheel. Admittedly the first one was a puncture. I've not hit any pot holes or herbs or anything as I'm super careful due to the low profile of the tire...

Thanks

not sure where consumer law stands on tyres but things purchased should be fit for purpose. My first course of action would be to go straight back to the fitters and see what they have to say, making sure I had all realavent receipts etc. It's entirely feasible that there was some kind of manufacturing defect that wasn't picked up but even so, 1000 miles is pretty poor even if you had hit a pothole IMO.

problem is if they decide to be tw@ts about it its just your word against theirs i would have thought, they saying that you must have hit a pothole/large stone in the road and you saying you havnt.

It doesn't take much and it's not related to age of the tyre. With a low enough profile side wall, even a stone/rock in the road can do damage. I once "did" two F1 GSD3s in 225/35x18 on the same stone, driver's side front and back.

Only two ways around it really, drive a 4x4 or with high profile tyres, or obtain a no quibbles guarantee for tyre replacement.

The state of our roads is so bad, that I'd never dream of running lower profile tyres. Even 205/55/R16 is quite low given the state of the roads.

had a reply from continental.

Thank you for your recent query.

Has the bulge always been there or has it recently appeared? If it's the

latter, then the chances are that the tyre has suffered some form of impact

damage. However, we would need to examine it in order to give you an

accurate conclusion.

The tyre can be returned to us - free of charge - via your local tyre

dealer. They will supply you with the necessary paperwork that you are

required to complete and sign. They will then arrange a collection with us.

Once requested, we will typically collect within 5 working days and once

received, will process, examine and issue our findings to you in writing

within a further 7 working days.

(i can see where this is going already)

They are doing the correct thing.

They need to know the tyre is a legit tyre, legit supplier and check their quality and manufacturing.

Tyre manufacturers replace or credit tyres everyday,

your mate should know that.

He must know that, so why did he not tell you?

Wait and see what they say before thinking the worst.

Easy enough to slag companies without them getting the chance to look at things.

Talk to the company if your supplier is not going to replace a faulty tyre and get a refund/credit.

It was your mate that should have been doing this, if you were not getting 'Mates Rates'.

We can soon slag a company if they do not do the right thing, but fairs fair.

Havnt had time to go see my mate yet. He was shut yesterday so all i got was the answerphone. But have been to 2 other garages who have had a look and said that it doesnt appear to be my fault. Im not slagging anyone off but im really miffed that ive only got 1000 miles from a highly priced tyre. Its really put me out. cant afford a new tyre either at the moment. so im stuck. Meant to be going away at weekend too. thats gone out the window with the space saver. :(.. Rubbish week really ha.

Will be calling into friends garage at about 5.00 tonight on my way home from work:)
