Which 205/55/R16?

Featured Replies

The choices seemed a lot more clear cut when I bought the car, but now that I really need them the options aren't so obvious from what I can find online.

Anybody got lots of experience with 16's?

Falken F452s are quite popular, however I guess a lot depends on your driving style.

Yeah, I suppose I should add, I don't rag the crap out of it, and I'm a cheapskate, in a way. I don't mind shelling out for tyres, but I do expect them to last well over 15,000 miles (preferably much in excess of that), with care and swapping them round half way through their life.

I don't think i'm going to get that with the Falkens...

I used to just throw PremiumContact 2's on the Volvo every time, simply because I could get 24,000 out of a set. Admittedly that was only with 137bhp (and I doubt it ever achieved that much tbh)

mmm, I get about 30k out of the fronts of my Falkens, and the rears are nearly double that and I drive a heavier diesel, and that is changing them before they are down to the marker, as I always seem to need to replace them in the "rainy" season (up to this year, where I invested in some winter rubber).

Still if you have ruled F452s out of your list of options there is little else I can add.

Really, that is interesting. Other people have told me they only manage around 8,000 out of their fronts, but I guess power and driving styles are going to have a large bearing on it. I may reconsider.

Currently I'm thinking Bridgestone RE050's

Have a gander, search by size, and see what you reckon.

it really does depend on how much your willing to pay though.

Can't find most of the tyres on that list around here in my size sadly.

Flea Bay / Other online shopping place, have them delivered, and find someone nice to fit them for ya.

Falken 912 are the longer lasting "touring" one, have them on my vRS and they are fine.

falken 912 on the bay for around 55 a tyre, been thinking of trying them out!

Falkens are usually cheaper on camskill. Check their website

30k out of a set of fronts :o

Dont think ive ever broke 10k

I had to edit my earlier post, 30k is my average from the fronts. I normally do about 25k a year (commute to work) + 5k personal miles, and I end up changing the fronts approx every 12 months. I am nice to my car though...max mpgs is the name of the game for me - especially if work is paying me per mile (mileage rate & for my time)

Avon zv5. Very under rated and about 65 a corner.

I was very unimpressed with RE050A, very soft and wore incredibly quickly

Its swings and roundabouts!

All depends what you want out of a tyre

Either lifetime or grip, they dont really come hand in hand

If you want longevity stick some pirelli p6000's on it, but grip wise prepare to die! I love grip so i go for soft compounds and keep clean underwear all year round

Ive got matadors all round on my vrs and love them, they even dont look to bad after a trackday beating,

They are continental budget brand well 85 quid a corner for 205/50/17, put a set on my run about vectra and they were ok on there in 195/65/15 fitment

Thankyou sir. One down. Not many left...

Okay ZE912's are looking favourable at the price. Let's see what Philip's Tyres in Oxford quote me (they undercut the **** out of everyone, and I don't know any local fitters either, so my options are kinda limited)

I must admit I loved the Avon's 'er indoors had on her old SLK. ZZ3's I think... Nice price at the time too.

try and price up uniroyal rainsport 2, most people seem to like them - its what i've transferred over to

Falken ZE912's here too. Had them on the old passat and they were very good. I've had them on the Octavia for about 6 months now and the have been spot on so far.

912's are £66.41 fitted on Blackcircles.

Okay, problem is the ZE912 are only V rated. The vRS should have W rated tyres. V's will invalidate the insurance.

912's ruled out.

Back to the drawing board. :(
