Intermittent brake servo assistance failure-all diesel owners should read

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm getting intermittent servo assistance failure on my SDI.

The rest of the time the brakes are fine and it still stops, albeit with a lot of pressure required, when the assistance goes. Fortunately my style of driving is such that I can cope with this without too much trouble.

Has anyone any ideas whether the likely culprit is the servo or the vacuum pump?

Are there any tests I can do which would isolate the problem?

Thanks in anticipation.

Didn't think it was the pipe as it was intermittent. Checked it-split both ends and just sitting there, how there was any vacuum I can't imagine. Duct taped both ends, Got to check the wife's motor later.

Everybody with a diesel Fabia should check this pipe immediately.

I had this issue a while ago, and I duct taped it back together. I've learnt to double tap the brake now lol.

Would you have a part number for this pipe?

I'd get a quite for a replacement pipe, as otherwise, if it was me, I'd easily out-spend the price of the pipe on upholstery cleaners and underpants!

Had brake servo failure (twice) on a MK1 Cavalier, once in an emergency stop in a back lane scenario, it's not nice!

New pipe please.

Had this on SDI W reg. There didn't appear to be anything wrong with the pipe. Pump gave good vacuum. Decided to change pipe before condeming servo and, lo and behold problem solved. The new pipe is a slightly different design which may be relevant.

I think mine may be on the way out too. Does anyone know the part number for this hose so I can order one from skodaparts?

had the non return valve in that plastic pipe go intermittent on my roomster, pain in rear to get out of servo, leading to intermittent loss of assistance becoming more frequent

pipe replaced and all good

I'd try VAG TPS first .

I'd try VAG TPS first .

Thanks. Are they likely to be cheaper? Part # is 6Q2 612 041CD if anyone else needs it. It's only £25 on Skodaparts (which is local, so I can go pick it up)

25 is what i payed through tps. Not even worth taping it up

Its a common issue on alot of VAG's electricians tape cures the leak quite easily :)

Same issue on our SDI a couple of years ago. New pipe please not tape. The design of the new one was slightly different to the old. A vacuum tester is easy to fit onto vacuum pump on the SDI if not sure whether pump working.
