Aftermarket satnav that works with a reversing camera, options?

Featured Replies

It looks like we'll be buying an 11 plate octy II at the weekend but being a 1.4TSI SE, it doesn't have satnav or graphical display for a reversing camera. Now, I've been reading here about the various options regarding fitting a reversing camera which appears to be piece of cake, especially if the 2.4G wireless version is used. The only prob is we'll end up with three separate screens in the car, one for the camera, one for our TomTom satnav and one for the radio.

Now ideally I'd like to source a satnav that accepts a wireless camera signal so the area behind the car can be shown on the satnav unit display, preferably made by TomTom or garmin and ideally would be as a complete kit. I've looked at fitting an aftermarket dashboard display but I won't be able to get a camera view through it as the car would have to back to the factory to have this fitted to enable this. It also appear costly as well.

So...are there any TomTom or garmin satnavs available that'll take a wireless reversing camera. Any info on this would be appreciated.

I've never seen one that will do that TBH. Nice idea though.

I picked up my Octavia yesterday. It has the standard Bolero headunit. Looked at adding bluetooth and a standalone satnav unit, but not only do the costs start to rack up, but set up isn't exactly dynamic... Dash mounts and wires everywhere.

I've ordered the Pioneer AVIC F9310BT that fully integrates with the PDC & AC. It has a touchscreen, satnav, bluetooth, dvd, and - pertinent to you - will accept a rear view camera input.

It'll cost a few extra quid, but it looks quality. And you can flog your original stereo for a little bit too.

Food for thought.

Can you not use the above unit and then get a wireless receiver that will connect to the input?

Obviously this will need a separate power source...

Does the Pioneer integrate with Maxidot? I'd be very interested to hear of your experiences once you've had the Pioneer up and running...

Amii21... How do you mean?

Like radio stations etc?

I've been doing a fair bit of digging around getting what info I can and it appears theres quite a few double din sat nav units available to buy that'll take a reversing camera input, its just a case of finding one thats suitable for me and the missus. Also, reliability, build quality, ease of use, what the on screen graphics look like (garish colours, 'orrid pics, etc), I while state that I prefer a "restrained " appearance for both the look of the unit itself and the on screen graphics.

Yes - radio stations but more importantly does it show you the satnav directions (with the Columbus the maxidot shows you an exit arrow and the next road name, so you only need to look at the maxidot for directions)

Ah ok... think I've seen this on my old man's Superb. So, if I retrofitted a Columbus, my maxidot would start doing this? I'll do a full report on the Pioneer when it's installed. Hopefully, tomorrow

How's the report coming along thejames? Waiting in anticipation

Sorry guys. Longish story... Short version: fitted the Pioneer avic f940bt. Really good unit, everything works as it should but no satnav on the maxidot. PDC and AC still display. MFSW works well. Now have bluetooth and satnav. Will add a RVC in time too.

Guess had I fitted a Columbus, it would need coding to work. This being a Pioneer unit using Navteq, I can't see how it would work.

I'm very happy though. I haven't lost anything and not sure how much it would add to have it anyway.
