EGR Blank/Delete

Featured Replies

Regarding blanking the egr valve on the AWX, once done will it leave any lights on dash clocks? can the dash light be put out with a remap? also how would blanking the egr valve effect emissions?

ive just seen the amount of sticky sh1te in the inlet manifold on my knackered engine and it doesnt look healthy for the engine to me, id rather not have the exhaust gasses returning into the engine sapping all power away!

pros and cons?

I dont get any error. Takes a little longer to warm up, but 50% less smoke and better mpg.

so how exactly do i delete the egr.? is it just a case of blanking the pipe/port thats runs from the exhaust manifold to the egr? so basically remove the pipe and blank off both holes?

I bought a blanking plate off ebay for 3 or 4 quid, then put it between the pipe and engine. Pretty straight forward... :-)

erg delete done.

but can someone tell me what the open hole is on the egr valve? the hole faces the rocker cover and seems to be spitting a little oil out.

infact the insides of my boost hoses have oil in them, is this a sign the turbo is ready to be replaced? its still the original unit which has covered about 99000 miles.

There will always be a little oil in the intercooler pipes so quite normal.

Also the little hole on the diaphragm on the EGR is quite common too to leak oil after age.Still quite cheap to replace.

im thinking of pushing a tube into this hole and route it towards the ground. i cant stand grimey engine bays.

hang on, theres another hole on the opposite side of the egr too!

after a drive the areas around the egr holes have a bit of oil splatter! is this because the egr itself is worn? worn diaphram?

If its what I'm thinking your explaining there is a round diaphragm housing on top the egr and there is a hole underneath it and that can leak out oil if it's worn. A replacement is the only solution.

I've just noticed that i've got the same issue on my EGR valve, oil splatter from the two holes either side. Has doing the EGR delete reduced the oil splatter at all? I'm like you and don't like oil around the engine bay so have been looking into replacing the EGR valve and doing the EGR delete too, but if doing the delete reduces the oil splatter then i guess there would be no real need to replace?

I'm very happy with my "delete". Never had problems since.

may i ask a rough guide to how i blank/delete the egr valve on the superb? im happy to buy the blanking plate(s) needed from ebay but wouldnt know how to remove the egr valve or how to fit the blanking plates. Any help?

just a quick question has anyone had any warning lights come up once they've done the egr delete? as ive just ordered the kit off darkside. cheers.

You will need a "EGR remap" to avoid the warning light. Basically it means, you turn down the amount of exhaust gas recirculated into the engine to almost nothing.

would my car function normal with the delete kit untill I could get the egr remap? or do I need the remap 1st? cheers

I'm pretty sure you will get a warning light. I don't think the car will have any problems driving... :-)

cheers, well it'll only be a couple of days and ill find out ;-)

It will flag up an error code but the car will continue to run as normal. BTW if you are anywhere near j16 M1 I can sort the map out to turn EGR off (no more light on the dash / no error codes) and possibly increase power/torque, depends what you want, drop me a PM if interested. Only downside of EGR delete is a longer cold weather warm up time, that's why I run without EGR in the summer and with EGR in the winter, just via two different maps.

thats great news, cheers for the offer but your a good 3hrs away lol.

ok so ive now done the egr delete, im not going to lie it was a pain in the bum, but i did remove the egr cooler aswell, ive encountered 2 problems doing it, 1 is my water pipes are kinked so ive had to order a u-bend to connect them so there are no kinks and 2 is the ive had to order a 90degree bend as the original pipe has a metal end which would usually clip into the egr but once i had cut the pipe it was too short, and an added bouns is that no warning light came on, which is apparently normal for 2006 and before (which was told to me by gwent vw newport). ok so this is what it looks like now

Egr 1

but once ive done the water pipe and bend ill up load finished pic!

ok its all done and running fine, only thing is that when im driving around 2200rpm and less for 30+ mins then it comes up with check emissions (so i will need the remap but that was next on my list anyway) but if i turn the car off and back on its gone, feels like its got a bit more go in the lower revs and havent checked for gained mpgs yet! but this is what it looks like all done-

Egr And samco hose

cheers.
