Vauxhall Adam

Featured Replies

I know "Yeti" isn't exactly the best name there is for a car, but Vauxhall or Opel came up with "Adam".

I hope it's a code name and not the real name of the car. It just sound stupid (I suppose Citroen had a car called Xsara).

If it's really called the "Adam", when would we see a Lamborghini Henry, a Renault Gunther or a Land Rover Linda McCartney?

Points taken, Mercedes named after daughter etc. I always thought it was Jimny. Honestly don't know anyone called Cedric.

Bugatti Cassandra might be interesting.

Could be right with it being jimny i always get mixed up with that

Have to admit though i found it stange the had called it the "adam" when i first read about it

It was Adam Opel that started the German company.

Renault Clio

VW Sharan (Sharon).

It is correct that the name comes from Adam Opel... which shows you exactly how much relevance it will have sitting on the tail of a Vauxhall. ZERO!

Will a young man seriously say proudly to his mates in the pub: "I drive an Adam." Eh?! They will instantly assume he is not the family bloke they had always assumed he was... And most buyers of these small cars will be female no? Would they want to drive something with a name like this?! I cannot believe they spent millions researching this and came up with such a gender specific name. Awful name. Maybe we just don't get German "humour".

But then would we have had the same conversation in the 70s when Volkswagen decided to call their new baby car the "Golf"?! Nothing wrong with that now is there? But remember that is a game played on grass with little white dimpled balls. Do we associate that game with the car now at all? Nope... so maybe we might grow into this Adam business. But not for a while yet I suspect. Come Adam 2 they will surely change its name (as Vauxhall normally does anyway).

Have a look at this article as well taking the mickey out of the name already: http://sniffpetrol.c...xhalladamrange/

Golf is 10x better as a name than the VW Rabbit.

Still waiting for the VW Adolf though

Quite clever actually, not that I believe for a second that it is any more than serendipitous but "Adam and Eve" is Cockney rhyming slang for believe. So the Adam links to believe, believing in and having trust in the brand.

Simples

Yes, the name of the company is Adam Opel AG or something like it. Was stamped on the plate of my Manta and my MkII Astra made in Germany.

Not a patch on the Mazda Bongo Friendee though.

Oh yes, I had a Mazda Bongo Friendee Freetop Two, It actually was a fantastic vehicle. but it also had an identical sister called the Ford Freda!

Skoda "Octavia", a Greek Godess
