Benefits of moving to coilovers?

Featured Replies

I'm currently running 30mm H&R springs, standard dampers and whiteline RARB and I'm thinking about moving to KW V1 basics.

Ride is currently only slightly harder than standard and is very good.

What benefits are there to moving to coilovers? I'll probably run it lower as I still feel the car has too much body roll for my liking, will coilovers help this?

Just wondering if the £500 + fitting costs is worth it.

Cheers

Sorry to go off toppic here mate but do you like you H&R's?

I was hoping to get either these or ebachs soon.

Hope you get your answers on the coilovers.

Cheers,

Carl

I have H+R's and are very pleased them with over the standard 1.9 tdi's suspension. They handle alot better and I dont really notice any more bumps in the road.

I've heard Coilovers are best for racing and will be very hard when normally driving around town/B roads etc

Me 3!! I've recently swapped from some ageing Eibachs to H&R's after *ahem* aquiring some.

I'm considering a move to Weitec Hicon GT's in order that I can get the rear end to look less like a tractor. Due to running next to no interior the car is a little 'nose down'

I've driven a standard vRS fitted with JOM coilies and the ride was nice and firm, if a lttle bouncy but not crashy.

I'm putting the 'bounce' down to them only having been on the car for a few days and that they may well have settled somewhat.

Relocate battery into boot - improve the front/rear weight balance, and improve the handling ;)

The two biggest factors in me going straight for coilovers were the main one being the ability to drop it to the exact hight I wanted. The second was how wallowy I found the stock setup, I wasn't sure springs alone would be enough I wanted a car that would be flat as possible cornering. I went to Birmingham in it with the mrs the other day, wasn't paticulaly uncomfortable, bit stiff & bouncy but not overly.

Thanks for the replies. H&Rs are very good springs but they do expose how pants the standard dampers and to upgrade to Koni or Blisten B8 dampers would be £500 + fitting alone. If I go to the KW V1s It will cost me £500 but I can see both the H&Rs and Whiteline RARB and get some cash back - Plus I can go lower :-)

I know the APs and Weitiecs are cheaper but not by much, I'd rather spend the £70 or so extra and go with the KW V1s.

Matt,

How flat is cornering in yours? Do you maintain your KWs?

I've got JOM coileys and they are a bit bouncy and it hasn't gone away for me, as you said not crashy at all though. For the price they are though they're a bargain!

I had weitec gt's on my ibiza cupra and they were great! Would be interested to seeif the v1's were much better.
