Dealer Clutch v Aftermarket

Featured Replies

Hi I 02 plate 1.9 Estate has just clocked 202,000. When I got the car at 100K I had a dealer fitted clutch & flywheel put in. It's now wanting another one, how good are the after market ones? I have been quoted £400 for Aftermarket ( Not sure of the make) & £550 for Dealer, I hope the flywheel will be ok this time, the Dealer said double the quote to include the flywheel. Aftermarket + £240

Has anyone had a good Aftermarket clutch fitted? Cheers

On a related note does anyone recommend the ecs stage one kit with 20.5lb flywheel?

There's a brand new one for sale locally and I'm thinking of grabbing it even though I think my clutch is okay at 110,000 km

it's going for over $200 less than it costs to buy from ECS :-)

G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch solid flywheel conversion,

G60 clutch from dealer 165 quid inc surcharge plus bolts to fit it

VR6 sash clutch kit 110 quid from here http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g3clutch.php

Does away with probamatic duel mass flywheel and makes clutch pedal alot lighter

I bet nz dealer prices are more :-)

I keep peeking at those ecs kits rob ....... Tempted are you ?

They seem a good price from awesome too

Let me know if you do and how you get on :)

Trouble is i always think " if im having a clutch snd flywheel then oooooo defo time for a dif "

Yeah diff would be soo tempting. Expensive though. Very tempted by the ECS kit, if it's still for sale tuesday (payday) I might go for it.

I think you should :D

Go forth and test :)

Yes, Rob, be the lab rat for us all

Unless you're getting it cheap, then there's no point in getting the ECS 20.5lb Stage 1 kit.

It's just a bog standard VR6 clutch kit, standard G60 flywheel and all the normal VW bolts. The only extra is the alignment tool (which you don't need if you're not fitting it yourself).

You can buy all the parts from any VW/Skoda garage. Plus you can get an OEM (LUK in Europe or Sachs in the US) VR6 clutch kit from any motor factor.

Considering Awesome sell the kit for £370.80, and I bought all the same bits myself from Skoda and GSF for £178, it's a bit of a rip off!!

ECS are a bit cheeky really. As in these photo's ( http://www.ecstuning...lutch/ES250321/ ) you can clearly see that it's a VW G60 flywheel, that's had the VAG part numbers machined off the back face!! Sneaky.

Save some money, build your own kit:

Cheapest one and no need for 2 threads

People say nice things about the ECS kit:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/169951-ecs-stage-1-clutch/

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/164526-ecs-stage-1-clutch/

So this is the same as these two part numbers?

After sourcing a G60 flywheel from Skoda and LUK 228mm VR6 clutch kit from GSF, Awesome GTi then fitted the new bits:

VR6 Clutch kit = 021 198 141 A

G60 Flywheel = 028 105 269 BX

And that includes all bolts etc? If so will price up from the local dealer to see if this ECS kit is worth buying.

You need to buy flywheel and clutch bolts seperate but a quick google search will give you part numbers

cost me about 275 quid for conversion stuff because you have to pay surcharge for flywheel

Here we go - thanks to Bodge's thread:

VR6 Clutch kit = 021 198 141 A

G60 Flywheel = 028 105 269 BX

Bolts for flywheel N90206103 x 6

Clutch pressure plate bolts N10101001 x 6

Have emailed the friendly parts man at the local dealer, should be interesting to see what NZ prices are.

VR6 Clutch kit = 021 198 141 AX $440+ Ex Germany

G60 Flywheel = 028 105 269 BX $225+ Ex Germany

Bolts for flywheel N90206103 x 6 $5.00+ ea Ex Auckland

Clutch pressure plate bolts N10101001 x 6 $0.80+ ea Ex Germany

So that's 699.80 + 15% GST = 804.77. That makes the ECS kit for $650 a good deal :)

Replying to myself now :D

But just found out the surcharge isn't included in those prices and in NZ is up to 60% of the part cost.

Ouch they rape you for parts over there but then I guess the markets there are more jap and holden owners than VAG.
