My project story, map & little disaster :(

Featured Replies

Little story about my project.

So my m8 has a Fabia & I was impressed on how nippy it was, cheap insurance & pretty economical. I though Mmm ok I got to get my self one off those. So I found a cheap one ebay, Mk1,40k miles and cost only £4200 (Cat D repaired you see)

On the way home from London to Manchester, the turbo pipe blow off. The Pipe was just botched together near the outlet with some type off glue. Well I guess that's what you get for buying a Cat D.

Having been the new owner for only a week, I decided to set about customizing my Fabia with the help off my bro. First I bought a big cheap FMIC off eBay at £200. (forge are overrated)

After installing the FMIC we then relized the new big FMIC was to big for the little kkk turbo (lag) So next step was to set about looking for a cheap bigger turbo.

After a couple off weeks I found a hybrid pd 150 turbo on eBay at £600. (It was a silly mistake to buy a over large FMIC but I'm glad I did as the new turbo rocks)

Now all that power & a standard clutch wont last long so I set about looking for a new clutch. After a few days search I thought a South Bend SMF Silent clutch would be the best as chatter is just to annoying to cope with. It cost a whopping £1,200 but its worth for being Silent.

Next step was to try & buy a PD160 air intake off eBay. Took some time but I got one for £60 & found a brand new ex display Jetex full exhaust system at the same time for just £300. Good old eBay can be great sometimes :)

Now all I had to do was take my new fun project to a tuner for a stage 2 map. I thought this would be the easy bit but ended up spending a week reading reviews on tuning places. In the end I decided to give in to Briskoda community recommendations and take the car to Sharks for a nice safe map. I spent just 3 long hard weeks to do all off the above mentioned.

So I got my car booked in last Friday at Sharks & drove down there for the 40mile trip from Manchester feeling like an excited kid on steroids :)

Sharks staff said the map will take about 4 hrs to put on so me and my bro decided to walk round Mansfield for a bit.

After 4 hrs walking round Mansfield we went back to get my car. I was shown the map by a Sharky staff for my Fabia. WOW its a nice smooth map & not smokey. I am impressed with Ben & his team. They that they could get 222 BHP out off my car but it would be smokey so they turned it down to 210 BHP. Well thats what I wanted so I was over the moon with it.

Right now for the FUN part, time to test this project out on the 40 mile drive back home, well that's what I had hope for anyway but I be so lucky.

I drove out off Sharks grounds & on to the road, giving it some acceleration then BANG, Grinddd, CRUNCH. Grr my bloody DRIVE SHAFT just went. Well that was a sad ending to a great day :(

I was so looking forward to the drive home & now I have to get the bus instead :(

Oh well at least I was lucky enough to brake down just outside Sharks and now they will repair the drive shaft for me ready for Tuesday.

I would just like to say thanks to Briskoda members for the advice with my project and Sharks for there GREAT work on my car.
