Missing pollen / cabin filter likely to cause damage?

Thanks for the link. Very useful.

I definitely don't have the housing or a bit to slide across to get to the filter (not that I have a filter either). And knowing about the two thumb screws helps with another project I'm working on.

the housing/slidey bit is in your pic on post one, start the car up with the motor bit still on show and press the recirculation button on and off and you will see it moving/ covering and uncovering the motor

Just back from the dealer with my hand in my head!

Turns out the pollen filter and cover were there - the picture is of the cabin air recirculation flap in the position to recirculate air as opposed to using new air!

The engineer at Startin Skoda, Powick, had a look and pulled the pollen filter (and quite a bit of c**p out with it) in a few seconds. I took the glovebox off while I was there to have a look, and he was right (as was 'petetdi' just above)!

When you press the 'recirc' button, you can see the flap move up and down - the flap moving down and rubber seals meeting when it is not in recirculation mode.

Think I missed it last time I had the glovebox off as this time I had accidentally hit the 'recir' button before doing any work...

Doh!

And my apologies and thanks to Startin Skoda for their help.

If I remember, I'll get a video next time the glove box is off.

Sorry, I didn't look at the picture and just took it that the next poster had identified it.

Oh well, all's well that ends well. and sounds like you've got a decent dealer too :)

No worries. No harm done (apart from a few miles of petrol).

Startin Skoda at Powick (Worcestershire) have been very good with me since I bought my Octavia two years ago.

The only criticism I have of them is that I didn't get the car washed after my last service!

Not really anything to complain about, really.
