Blown turbo! HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi I think I just blew the turbo on my 02 19TDI octavia,

theres oil all over the belt etc,but its not lost very much on the dipstick.

There is no smoke when running and no strange noises, just lack of power.

I have been having bother with the turbo sticking, but usually fixed with a restart.

Is there any other reason for the oil loss, seals etc? and is it ok to drive?

Many thanks in advance.

Why would a turbo put oil all over the belts they dont leak oil outside they blow it into the engine or leak out of the exhuast. Just clean the turbo vanes with mr muscle foam oven cleaner sqirted into the vanes via tube and leave for a couple of hours. Then find your oil leak.

might leak oil all over the place if it was a spectacular explosion.... or if the casing cracked someplace.

Ok That`s sounding like good news  thanks for the replies.

Are you sure it's engine oil?

If it is, then it could be coming from the turbo oil feed or return. You also want to see if there is oil on the cambelt.

The other thing I'd check is the PAS fluid. If the steering pump is leaking, it would end up on the aux belt.

If there's oil on the cambelt...

the turbo will be one of the least of your worries.

Contaminated belt will have to be replaced.

Time to get it towed to a garage methinks, unless you're very handy with a spanner. Don't even chance it.
