Ambient temperature sensor

Featured Replies

I looked under my bonnet of my 2011 Cr tdi vRS and found a wire which looks like it has a sensor on it just not plugged into anything between the front bumper and the radiator. I took it to my local Skoda garage and they said they have re positioned the wire. I have looked at some other Octavias since and this wire is still in the space between the bumper and the radiator but pushed into a small holder.

I am concerned that mine is now incorrectly fitted and before it had just come loose from the holder.

Do you think this wire is the Ambient temperature sensor .

Can anyone look under their bonnet to see if this wire is there. You can also see it through the honeycomb grill on the vRS and probably any octavia that has a temperature read out.

Thank you.

Unlikely to be an ambient temp sensor near the radiator. These are usually the the mirror housing.

This sounds like the sensor for the temp indicator in your car. Mine has popped off a couple of times and the holder is in the top right corner of the grille. The holder has a couple of snap on lugs which keep the sensor in place. It seems a bit flimsy and as it needs a bit of pressure to push it back into place I am sure one of these days they will snap and then black tape will need to be used.

Provided the garage has placed the sensor where it can detect the outside temp should be OK.

The outside temp. on mine seemed to be a few degrees out. Had a look in the Haynes today to see where I'd find it, popped the left lower grill out and found no sensor attached to the bumper bar. Got the torch and shone in through and saw a wire going back into the engine bay area, gently pulled on it and sure enough on the end of it was the sensor. Reattached it to where it should be and so hopefully now the reading will be a bit more accurate.
