New steering sensor, much nicer drive

Featured Replies

Was getting the dread red wheel ! on the dash and flickering heads so Rainworths finest used to replace the early plastic sensor. Easy fit but a faff running the cable to the pump. The unexpected thing was the change in cornering. I had thought the car a little sensitive to steering inputs particularly on fast long corners, a bit like driving with an ultra low ratio rack for the first time, always fiddly little steering inputs needed.

No longer. Must have been the power steering miss-reading the angles and making little unwanted changes in assistance which I was having to correct. Now corners as it should. Only need to do 'half as much steering'. Much nicer.

The few times I lost assistance, brief and at parking speeds, were scary but I thought they were the only problem I was having. I hadn't realised that a failing steering sensor would change the feel of the steering so much, making the car so sensitive/skittery to drive.
