Pairing Keys

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2001 1.8T 4X4 estate, none of my keys will open the car (only with the key). I have read one way on the Fabia site, but this does not work on the Octavia. Can anyone help?

This is from memory so probably isn't 100% right but if you do a search on here for "pairing keys" it'll probably come up.

1. Open drivers door window so you can reach into the car and get the key out if the coding process doesnt work.

2. Put a working existing key in the ignition and turn to position I (warning lights on but engine off)

3. Use the new remote key you are trying to pair to manually lock the drivers door (don't hold it locked or the window will go up)

4. Now take the new key out of the door and press lock on the remote part of it. The sidelights flash.

5. Now press and hold unlock for a few seconds. If the coding has been successful the horn will sound, sidelights will flash again and the car will unlock.

Your new key is now coded to the car

I only have the one key for my Vrs and would very much like a spare could I go to a scrap yard and get a remote key the same as mine and get a new blade cut to the same as my original key from a local lock smith would I be able to reprograme the transponder to my car even tho it was programmed to another?

You'll need to first code the keys transponder to your immobiliser using VCDS and your secure key code (if you don't have that you'll have to get a dealer to give it to you). Then you'll be able to start the car with it.

Then you can follow the steps above to code the remote part of the key to lock/unlock the car.

You also need to make sure you pick up a key from the breakers which operates on the same frequency as your current key (if you take your current key apart I think it has the frequency marked on the transponder)

Hi, tried that and it did not work for me. I know Vasstech will charge £24. Might just use them on this occasion

My question would be is it the fob that's the problem? If both fobs don't work id be more inclined to think the problem is the car

Not sure, the red light does come on both fobs when you press them. Maybe I will pay the £24 to get them working... If they work of course.
