1200 rpm idle on warm mornings?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if this is a common problem on 1.2 tsi engines? In winter upon start up on a cold morning the car would idle fine. The trouble is that now as the weather has warmed up a bit that when I start up in a morning (or afternoon after work) when the temp is in double figures, my car idles at 1200 rpm and continues for about a mile or two and then it settles down to 700 ish.

Does anyone else have a similar problem??? I find it confusing that it's fine in cold weather but is confused by warm weather.

This is not a problem, it is quite normal.

As far as I know this happens because catalysator needs to be warmed up quicly, to be capable to keep emissions low plus to eliminate the vast temperature difference between him and environment and that's why during winter time this is not happening too often.

When this occurs I wait for the engine to settle down to 700rpm, it only takes about 30 secs. This time period is enough for engine to rise the proper oil pressure. I am also wait about 30 secs even is this phenomenon does not occurs.

My Audi is the same, starts at 1200rpm and settles down to 750rpm after a very short period.
