Fabia VRS Tyres - to change or not to change

Featured Replies

Well the answer to that is deffinitely "to change" as 3 of my 4 are down to almost illegal limits however the what and how many question raises its head.

My front tyres have been on 12 months and done 20k+, one rear has been on a coupel of years and covered nearer 50k, the final tyre was replaced due to a puncture less than 5k ago.

All are presently Pirelli P Zero Nero but given my recent high level of maintenence spending I'm struggling to find the required £85+ a corner.

So do i:

  • Stump up and buy 3 new pirellis
  • replace 1 pirelli, and put 2 "others" on the front?
  • buy 4 others to put on my new shiny rims - keepnig the 3 knackered ones and 1 good tyre for potential track work?
  • fit the best of the large stack of 55 profile tyres I have in my garage as an interim option?

If your suggestion is option 2 or 3 what do i buy instead?

Uniroyals and Hankook V12 EVO seem to be cheap and get rave reviews around this place?

Camskill have TOYO TR1's on special off at £65 each but isn't the lifespan of those quite short?

Depends what you're wanting really...

Uniroyals have been getting plenty of great reviews.

Toyos in general from what i've read/seen have pretty poor wear, even if their grip is pretty decent.

I was actually having a gander a little while back at Neuton NT5000's after a mate recommended them...

Pretty cheap to get hold of too.

Edit: They now have a bigger brother:

Which are getting even better reviews.

I was looking at them too, but Falken 452s worked out nearly the same so I got them instead lol

Save the old ones for track work and get 4 new ones. Or pop the one decent one on the spare if that's worn? Suppose you could fit the 55s if they don't impair the car much, depends if you'll find another use for them anytime soon.

I've only had my Uniroyal Rainsport 2s on for a few hundred miles but I do like them and I read a lot of reviews before getting them. I have Vredestein Sportrac 3 too but they seem to wearing quite quickly on the front, and the new Sportrac 5 has just come out but I don't know if they do them 205/45 R16. The Toyo T1Rs apparently have quite a soft sidewall I've read, but I have no experience of this and similar criticism was leveled at the Uniroyals and Vredesteins anyway. However the T1R apparently isn't as good as the others in wet and damp conditions.

I'd say go Falken 452 or Uniroyal RS2, let price and availability be the deciders. The Vredis are good but finding them is a pain in the arse. No idea on the V12 Evos.

I think what i'll probably do is buy 1 pirelli and 2 rainsports and then use the 55 profiles for track work ditching the knackered 45's completely

that way i'm in pocket and have 2 decent pairs of tyres
