Must have options?

Featured Replies

My F.I.L. Is seriously considering buying a Roomy!

He's looking at a 1.2TSi 105 SE in Rosso Brunello Met.

Which is better than the French P.O.S. he's been considering

So what toys should he specify?

I've convinced him he needs Fr. Fogs and Maxidot!

Please bear in mind he's a young 71, But still a bit of a technophobe, But can be talked round!

Oh and, Can cornering be activated with the standard fog option?

I've got Hex-Can VCDS, But never been near a Roomy with it!

Thanks in advance

Get glass roof and sunset tint glass in the back. and DGS gear box :)

Glass roof and heated seats!

Parking sensors are a must

Spectacles/sunglasses holder unless glasses not required, I just retrofitted one in my wife's Roomster. Note you might want to glue some sponge tape inside the compartment to prevent glasses rattling.

I second heated seats, very good, and very fast to warm up.

Panoramic glass roof is well liked by kids, not sure who the passengers will be, but at this age who knows, perhaps the driver might like it already (I speak from experience, my wife has been helping an eldrely couple now approaching 90 for past 8+ years), If grandkids are to be driven in the car, get glass sunroof and a third rear headrest. If FIL has doubts, show the Roomster with sunroof to the grandkids, instant reaction  . For very small children, passenger airbag with switch-off function is also welcome (it is an option, used to be standard).

If any luggage is ever to be carried on the roof, you must get roof rails, as without them you cannot cary anything there, and it is gbp300+retrofit.

MFD - multi function display - you can reset service intervals there, set various display options and speed warning among others, plus it provides useful trip info such as travel time, economy, and what gear you should be in (take that last one with a pinch of salt, especially for first ~2k miles of the car's life) .

DSG box is very easy to use and probably a very good idea judging by how our ~90yr old acquaintances (do not) control clutch/throttle. Note however that ordering DSG car takes much much longer, usually no special offers on them, plus the long 5-speed manual gearbox is really easy to drive - town in 1/2/3, out of town in 4th, motorway/dual carriageway in 5th, or listen to what computer says on the MFD. If your FIL drives the manual g/box well, best to stick with the manual.

Might be a good idea to get ESP / stability control, it works very well in wet and in winter, preventing oversteer.

If the car is driven for longer trips (motorway), consider front armrest, opinions are divided but it fits both myself and my wife.

Fog lights are good idea, surprisingly good given only 35W bulbs, you get also Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) with them, they are fully wired up, though on mine the DRL switch plug was disconnected for some reason. Note Skoda DRLs are too bright, best to swap the bulbs for LEDs right away, or at least 24V P21W bulbs (8x-10x drop in intensity), I'll post links at some point, round LEDs with lenses look very good.

Finally, one practical item for rural roads is the full sized spare wheel with jack and tools, steel wheel by default but you can talk dealer into providing alloy one, same as wheels/tyres on the car.

Accessories:

Front mudflaps

Rear mudflaps

Plastic boot dish - this will make boot quieter as well as resistant to spills, broken shopping etc.

Vertical nets - good for accessories

Parcel shelf net - provides great storage for umbrella(s).

I hope these help.

I part-ex'd my French P.O.S. for the Roomy almost three years ago.

The Roomy is in a different league.

Essential for me was the spare wheel option (replaces the goo can)

I also specified the glass roof. I wouldn't want a Roomy without one.

Mine has roof rails as standard. They look good and I find them useful.

As far as I know, roof bars are only available for Roomsters fitted with roof rails.

Roof rails are are difficult and expensive to retro-fit

Yes to the glass roof, it really lifts the interior along with the two tone dash/doortrims. I wouldnt have any Skoda with the all black dash as its too gloomy.

Id avoid metallic paint, in years of new car ownership Ive never had a car that chips as bad as a metallic paint Skoda, both Fabia and Roomster have been dreadful.

Standard on the SE spec when I got mine was the sunroof, parking sensors and tinted rear glass. Extras I went for were:

Climate control

Cruise control

3rd rear headrest

Spare wheel

Passenger airbag deactivation

The DSG box also gave some extra traction control acronyms and hill hold assist as standard. It is difficult to pin down the dealer with default spec on some items as engine and gearbox choice vary these.

Anyone know what the leadtime is on a New build?

The dealer can't give a date!

From what I understand there is up to a 6 week delay before they can tell you a build date and then anything from 9-25 weeks to build it!

Ask you dealer for the SLI number and spam http://www.trackmyskoda.co.uk

I am 3 weeks from ordering... Still no build date...

trackmyskoda works only for some north dealers, it is much better to contact Skoda customer services from skoda.co.uk web page, but you should have an estimated build date (+-2 weeks) already from dealer, they get weekly information on that.

Mine was supposed to take 13 weeks, in the end took only 10 weeks. I asked Skoda customer services 2 times, 6 weeks apart, about delivery date and they responded quickly. However, literally a day before delivering the car (I knew it had been built by then), the dealer tried to convince my wife that the car delivery is more than a week away. Not sure why that is, but next day I phoned Skoda and they told me the car is at the forecourt... and it was. Could it be they wanted the car at the forecourt for a few days to show it to customers?
