That looks like fun but it will be expensive!

indeed... looks good, but I bet its way more than a golf GTI to buy too!

a fabia vRS will give 211 bhp with a TMC box on it! you could then modify the suspension and brakes, and it would all cost you less than a current polo GTI......

Thats not the polo R the polo R will be a polo monte carlo, i.e a 1.2tsi with a body kit on it

Thats something else thats way down the pipeline

wot about this

Yes she is very nice in White! Bang tidy! Or did u mean the car? Hehe

I thought the R was meant to be the AWD 1.6T version that due in November. There isnt going to be a MC style Polo AFAIK (Wouldnt make sense anyway, why bother with another sporty Polo when you already have the BlueGT, GTi and planned R versions)

Just remembered Its a polo R line not a polo R(no such thing)

The polo R line is 100% a polo MC my dad works for vw and was down in milton keys doing training on it for the last 2 days and they had an article on it in vw driver this month

They also have no intention of going back to 1.6s they have stopped using them altogether belive that a 1.4 is a better option

Autoexpress have also said confirmed to be 217bhp 2.0TSI for PoloR with a supercharger and turbocharger.

I think they have that mixed up, that is the engine fitted to the Concept show car. VW have said before the Polo R will be the first car with the new 1.6T with vnt turbo.

The "production" Polo R is widely expected to be running the new 1.6 T with something like 216-230 BHP stock though the engine is supposed to be good for up to 300BHP in its full max tune state.

Using the 1.6T would make a lot more sense as that’s what is being fitted to the Audi S1.

The A1 is reported to be running the 1.6TFSI with 220BHP and Quattro

Audi are also releasing a A1 Quattro in 1.4 TFSI 180bhp form as well

Unfortunately it looks like someone at VW's going for an own goal and decided that Front wheel drive only was a good idea for the Polo R

Also remember the new Golf Mk7 GTI is scheduled for release next year.

I'm curious what the oil consumption will be !!!

It'll probably be fine as its a new engine it'll have some new freshly designed in weak point its just a case of finding it.

though all told it should be less stressed and a bit cooler running than the 1.4 twin charger (just a guess here nothing to back it up)

I'm just interested to see how it copes with trying to put down that sort of power with only front wheel drive.

The Polo/Fabia isn't a great chassis to start with but the 1.6T with VNT turbo should have a very linear and smooth torque curve which should help.

My old work mate and friend has the latest Focus RS with big intercooler, decat and other mods and is running close to 400bhp (300 standard). It's a bit of a handfull in the wet but in the dry the trick differential is excellent, none of this XDS pretend limited slip diff a proper motorsport-derived Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing differential. After driving nearly undrivable tuned FWD cars in the 80's and 90's and after owning Cossie's and Impreza's and feeling the difference I was expecting the Ford to be rubbish but came away amazed.

I wonder if VAG can pull off a similar job with 220bhp in the Polo? We'll see.

You are talking Polo R-Line. Which is a trim level same as the Audi S-Line and old Passat R-Line (mid model but with bigger alloys, body kit and sporty bits inside)

This thread is about the Polo R which will be the high powered sport model same as the Golf R and Scirocco R.

The Polo R WRC car that VW is entering in the WRC will have a 300bhp 1.6T as that is the new FIA regulations, and VAG have already hinted that the a road going version of the same unit would make 180-220bhp without any issue.

Wont be called a polo R though, tbh i dont even think theyl know whats its defo going to be called could maybe see it being a polo rallye? And itl probably be a polo gti just tarted up a bit or have a 2.0tsi(or tfsi if theres a diffrence) and not a 1.6 they have slowly phased 1.6s and 1.8s out so you can have a 1.4for econemcy and some performance or a 2litre for out and out perforance

I could be totaly wrong but my dad says theyv never mentioned this at any launches/courses that he has been on, plus it would porbably be launches in a.seat just now for testing so that if its a fail it dosnt tarnish VWs name

VW have already stated the rally car will be known as the the Polo R WRC and the road going version will be the Polo R. It will sit above the Polo GTi just the same as the Golf R sits above the Golf GTi.

Vw and Audi usually have first pick at engine technology and new engines tend to appear in their lineups first whether it's common rail, tsi, cylinder deactivation, stop/start. It usually filters down to Skoda and Seat except for the odd one or two.

VAG will keep downsizing and developing same as everyone else. The 270bhp 2.0 replaced the V6 the 1.6T will replace the 2.0. The 1.2TSi 105 is already lagging behind Fords 1.0T 125ps and Ford have already stated they have a running prototype with 177bhp. VAG are already looking at 3 cylinder 900cc tsi and perhaps even a twin cylinder.

Ford, PSA and Vauxhall all have 1.6's available with 200bhp+ and with WRC and F1 both going to 1.6T's these engines will be very maketable.

It does look like the 1.6T has been delayed as the A1 Quattro and Polo R were originally penned for the 1.6T but this seems to have slipped to a low tuned 2.0T at the moment.

Concealed under this standard Polo GTI body is Polo R running gear, including an all-new 1.6-litre TSI engine and the possibility of four-wheel drive. The 1.6-litre TSI unit will produce around 210bhp and is likely to replace the 1.8-litre TSI engine in the VW line-up which is currently one of the oldest and most inefficient engines.

The new engine has been revealed in the Volkswagen Polo R WRC rally entry for 2013 where it produces 300bhp

No thats the citygo plus +

Another over-priced VW.

No wonder people buy Skoda's - you get more for your money and (imo) a better car.

The Polo GT Bluemotion thing looks good but not convinced by the cylinder shut down to save mpg, something else to go wrong!
