Shopping for set of new tyres

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask some advice on new tyres for the Fabia VRS.

I don't want to buy the real cheap crap but have budgeted for max of £100 a corner (I need 4) but open to suggestions from yourselves.

Ideas/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Not keen on the Dunlop Sport Max's the car came with. Not keen on the Toyo Proxie 4 either. Tends to lock up and squeal under braking a lot more than the dunlops do.

I hear good things about Federal. The Toyo TR1's are apparently really good too.

I had 2 unirayal rainsport 2 fitted to my car not long ago.they cost me £226 all in ( this is tyres valves fitting and VAT) so not to bad

They are very good in the wet good in the dry the back end feels alot better with the unirayal on i like them alot and will be fitting 2 more to the car

Kumho Ecsta LE39... Very good mid range tyres, costed me £64.00 inc. fitting per corner. Really good and long lasting tyres

Sessanta's all day long. Get them in 215 though.

I love mine and only £85 a corner

Thanks for the repies so far.

I'd spent quite some time on 'tyrereview....' previously but to be honest never really looked at or heard of Sessanta's but the reviews are very favourable.

More importantly you guys (with the same car) are also impressed.

Just wondering (prob a silly question!) but as 'VRS-Powered' suggests I use 215's - does that mean I can just order 215/40/17's (as opposed to 205/40/17's) and they fit as normal?

I personally wouldn't get the Matador Hectorras... Got on recommendation and tbh they aren't for me...

Re the SP Sport Maxx, I loved them and will be putting them back on ASAP

Unfortunately I have to disagree love the Hectorras.

Those Sensettas look good though, will be next years option probably (winter tyres will come first)

Yup, direct fit on OEM wheels :)

Another Question. Where did you order them from? Was the price including fitting?

I've had a look at the usual 'fitting stations' locally as well as e-tyres etc but none stock the sessanta's.

Presumably I will have to order then pay local garage to fit?

Lovetyres.com, great service then a local fitter charged £10 a tyre so £95 a corner :)

Really appreciate the advice.

I'm off for a week away tomorrow so will be getting the new tyres in a couple of weeks.

Will have to give a good revirew once i've put a few miles on them!!

Is there not a worry that an insurance company would not pay out as you are not telling them you have deviated from standard or do you tell them?

Our Fabia VRS came with Conti sport contact 2s which I would have thought is old stock as I thought these were long superceeded.

They are pretty good but not as good a Mich PS3s from personal and tyre reviews. If you are keeping the car a while then PS3, and Contis, usually work out roughly the same or cheaper as the last proportional longer for the extra price.

Cannot imagine they will last much more than 12K on the front.

Anybody carrying a full sized spare?

It looks like it will fit easily as the spare is a 195 and the standards are only 205 with the same rolling radius.

maxxis victras ;) they rock as a summer tyre , my review is on tyre reviews. £70 a corner fitted

They were... Just can't get them to work like the Dunlops :/ they were 200% better IMO

most interesting, considering what others have said about the dunlops... I know you always likedthem, maybe you can get the heat into them while others cant... the best journalist reviews I've seen on the dunlops were on a track... getting them warm... maybe the matadors melt a bit when they are hot, much like the contis....

Fulda Sport Control.

Good compromise between performance and economy (fuel consumption and wear)

I'm still undecided what to do when the time comes. I was going to rotate and change two but I'll just change the 2 fronts then change 4 next time. I tend to like asymmetric tyres as anything else on the Mk1 I found tram lined badly. I don't mind spending £100 a tyre though provided it's worth it

Highly rated sport tyre on tyrereviews website and Autoexpress best tyre 2012......

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.

Some reasonable deals about and a fair bit cheaper than Conti Sports or Pilot 3's

I'll be trying them out later this year.

Cheers

Lee

Yeah I had them before and from what I remember they were good

I had rainsports all around on my Focus Tdci and must say there were pretty epic in the rain.
