High speed flashes for Nikon?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Perhaps a newbie question so I do apologies in advance.

Little background - I plan to get a d90 as an upgrade to the d60 Im playing with. Currently have the YongNuo Speedlite YN465 flashgun, its a basic ttl (many occasions I had to use manual as I was not happy with its decision), inexpensive and good learning curve into flashguns.

Im looking for the next step up for my flash, I would like to experiment with FP flash a little more. So as a next step upgrade what sort of price bracket and flashguns am I looking at?

Any links etc would be great to get me on my way :) Thanks,

Stick with the D60, it's a great camera, and spend the money on the Nikon flash guns.

You could save a bit over the Nikon by buying the top of the range Nissin (for Nikon cameras). It gets great reviews and is more powerful than all but the very latest guns.

What are you looking to photograph with the flashguns?

You might be better buying slightly less powerful / well specked guns and getting two of them!

No links as I'm mobile, but expect about £400 at the top end.

Depending on what you want, you might be better off with a studio flash head!

Depends upon what you want to phitigraph, how portable you want it to be, how powerful you need it to be and how much you want to spend...

Heres a link which should give you an idea what the best prices are of UK  spec  flashes, you may find them a little cheaper if you do a lot of searching.

I have the D90 and the SB600 - takes everything you can throw at it.

Awesome camera and a brilliant flashgun.

Before you buy any flashguns, make sure your camera can control them off-camera and the guns can be triggered off-camer.

Once you get into flash photography, you really want them to be away from the camera for best effects. No point in spending out twice when you find out your new purchase limits what you can do with it.

Thanks for the reply guys,

I think I need to read more into about flash photography. Not really sure whats major differences between a mid spec and a high spec camera in terms of application..

I also slightly given up on a d90 and bought myself a d5100 instead.. (Was a bit of a bargain!)

So to wrap up, I'm debating on getting a YN-565EX (£95) or a YN-468II (£65), both has majority of functions on the d5100. good starter flash plus can use it as a slave later on when I do get more into flash photography.
