To demap or not - NOW DEMAPPED!

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, I'm wondering if I should demap the car?

I'm probably going to chop the vRS in for a different car to ferry the kids around and thought a standard map would make more sense. I've been offered £3500 on a trade in, so thought I'd go with that. I haven't mentioned the remap yet as I had thought I'd sell it on here before I got anywhere near a deal. So do you reckon I should have it demappped and if so, how? Is there anyone who could put an original map on in the Scarborough/York area?

I haven't started a for sale thread yet, but thought I might in case someone wants a decent car with a very good map before it's gone.

What do you all reckon?

Andrew.

Id leave it on, though its a shame you can't give it to me lol

What, the map or the whole car? ;)

Err was talking about the map, but I would accept the car too lol

Keep it safe there's no decent mappers around York n Scarborough

Leave it as it is! Give the new owner a bit of joy

I know but as I've mentioned in another thread, I like to do the right thing. Further down the line, someone might buy the car, not know it's mapped and then in theory not be insured.

Mind you, after two minutes they'd be pretty sure it's mapped.

Leave it on. Surely even somebody on here will be willing to part with more than £3500?

Even I would if only it were an Estate...(tired of fettling my POS)

Sorry Jase, I was typing as you posted.

It would bring them a lot of joy indeed. I suppose in that way then I'm doing someone a favour?

I'm out of synch here!

I'd have thought that people who know of my car would be happy to pay me the trade in price quite happily. I'd leave the arb on, the Becker head unit in and even the OE Sunshades on as a Briskoda special.

If it was a couple of years back as I was looking for mine I would jump at the chance.

I'm not in this to make big bucks, so am not asking a stupid price. There are some on autotrader for a lot more and maybe they are better than mine, but I'd rather it go to someone who'll enjoy the car as much as me. The Mrs is quite teary at the thought of the car going as we've had it a long time, so the thought of it going to an auction to then be thrashed/trashed isn't a nice thought.

I suppose the only people who'll read this thread are people who have a vRS anyway. I ought to put it in the For Sale section - I wonder why I'm stalling? :D

C'mon man, do it already. And post lots of pics.

I must admit, I'm beginning to wonder if I could fit my 4X12 cab, and amp head in a saloon with a couple of guitars on top now...and live without an Estate???????

Not tried it in my octy yet, but could easily fit the same gear, plus my pedalboard in the boot of my Volvo 850 saloon. The octy has a bigger boot IMO, so you shouldn't have a problem.

As for the Map, I'd leave it on- just make sure you include a note with the service history that it's chipped.

I've sold 3 remapped cars in the past, and on 2 of them (both Golf MkIV PD130s) I "demapped" the cars before selling, thinking that a standard car would be more saleable and appealing.

Then I sold my Bora PD130 (with REVO to 180hp), and to my surprise got a lot more interest (not from chavs as I had feared either), and the car sold for what was a relatively better price than the 'standard' Golfs.

So I'd say leave it, and declare it if selling it privately : if part-exing, as we all know dealers and garages just want cars that are as standard as possible so I would de-map it.

I bought a fabia vrs from a skoda dealer in 2007! It was an 04 plate which looked standard!

After i got it home and did some digging it had a pd160 intake fitted, green cotton airfilter and it rolling roaded at 173bhp (mapped)

I guess in your case that was a bonus discovery? It depends on who buys the car. If they want to mod it then a free map is a fantastic gift - especially this RS Tuning map. If they don't then they might have grounds for a complaint and then the garage would be asking me questions.

edit. The original map is stored locally by a tuner/mapper from a few years ago. He's happy to restore the car back to the original map for a very reasonable fee. I think this is the way to go as the trade in prices are quite reasonable - between £3000 and £3800. I'll be taking the arb off, putting the original head unit in and other little bits to make the car as standard as possible. Sad, but modded cars aren't appealing to most people, even if they have been done very carefully and sensibly.

Yes it was a big £500 saving bonus

I got offered £1300 trade in for mine and nothing off the car I was looking at as I was "trading in" or as I put it "getting shafted twice" :p

Quite pleased as it is the only reason that I still have it, that was 6 months ago now and I haven't test driven anything else since.

If I do trade my one in or auction it I won't be going out of my way to tell them that it has been remapped but will give them my folder of receipts when I drop it off which contains the Revo invoice :p

Are you really going to sell with the shades in? You'll be better off removing them and selling them separately. You won't get any more for the car if you leave them in.

Yeh I'll buy them off you if the price is reasonable m8 ;)

Well, I had the car put back to standard this morning. James at Chipboost had the original Skoda map stored on his laptop and swapped them over this morning. It's quite novel to have the OEM map back on now as it's surprisingly OK. There's loads less torque, it's not as willing to pick up lower down the rev range, but it's still alright. Me and the Mrs were laughing that we now had only 180bhp to get us from A to B.

Next thing is to take the arb off, swap the head unit over and sort the door lock. It's then all good to trade in. The best I've had offered so far is £3800, so it seems daft to go through the hassle of selling it privately. Unless someone on here wants it, then it'll be off to the nearest dealer that has a Honda FRV diesel for sale.
