Clarkey's 56 Plate Fabia vRS

Nice.

It always amazes me that the Jabbasport stage 3 conversion gives so much power but such good economy when driven sensibly.

Even whipping around and doing the legal speed limit I'm averaging 53-odd mpg.

Absolutely. It makes me wonder how many miles I could achieve from a brimmed tank if I drove particularly sensible for the whole tank; thought I don't think I'll manage to be that restrained for so long!

Even on the Cumbrian Run a couple of weeks ago, I totalled just shy of 500 miles that weekend and averaged an actual, not indicated, of 43mpg- which for a fair bit of clear motorway driving along with making considerable progress around Cumbria's finest twisties is still pretty good going in my view.

Very pleased with this car.

That's way better than what my standard engine does. I average 380 a tank.

Crikey, that seems low Tim. Even when driving pretty swiftly throughout a tank, I'll manage about 450. I popped to the supermarket earlier and I'm on 360 ish miles this tank and the needle is above half. Admittedly, I always brim the tank (including expansion tank) so that might explain some of those extra miles, plus on this tank I've behaved myself for the majority.

I'm sure I've read on here that a faulty MAF sensor can result in power drops but also in poor mpg returns, perhaps it might be worthwhile having a look at yours?

Yeh that's what I've put it down to (after cleaning the EGR and not seeing any difference). I've heard a good clean and pasting with dielectric grease can help it so I'm going to do that.

Hi All,

I've not updated this for some time, but as the half decent weather is upon us I've managed to get a couple of decent photos so thought I'd get them up.

The first couple are with the TT Comps which I fitted a few weeks ago for the summer, I didn't trust the Yokohama Parada Spec 2s in the poor weather:

I sold my silver standard vRS wheels recently and got a great deal on these Octavia Spiders, which are originals (never refurbed) and wrapped in brand new Toyo R888s. These were taken after spending over ten hours on the car last week with some new detailing goodies:

I'm very pleased with the way the car looks now. I also fitted the driver's under seat storage unit this week. Next on the list is acquiring a spare set of brakes front and rear to be refurbished in Skoda Green to be fitted with plain discs. That ought to cap off the OEM+ look a treat I hope.

Looks awesome buddy

Thanks Pete, I'm very pleased with it if I do say so myself :-)

Thanks folks, glad others like it too.

wilsy7- the Paradas are great in the dry, but I had a moment with them in the wet going round a roundabout- I turned the wheel and carried on in the same direction. Woke me up a bit! I had just removed Uniroyal Rainsport 2s though, which are tremendous in the wet. Oversll I guess the Paradas are a good tyre, just don't inspire loads of confidence in the wet ;-).

Are they ok for normal driving in the wet? Just not going too hard? I want the best tire for dry grip but is also safe in wet conditions. I don't drive hard in the wet so just need something that's safe.

Yeah they're okay in the wet mate, I just went round the roundabout like I would have on Rainsports and got a bit of a fright; and that wasn't driving like an idiot at all.

Have a butchers at http://www.google.co....46751780,d.d2k for more info. They're okay in my experience, way better in the dry.

I think the Dunlop sport Maxx rt and yoko advan ado8 are top of my list ATM. Sorry for spamming up your thread! :S

Still looking smart, although with it being a great sleeper my preference is the Spiders. :)

that is just NICE soo clean the colour is lush with the standard looks and massive power figures! love it WANT IT!

Thanks guys. I have some freshly refurbed OEM Fabia vRS alloys in shadow chrome with the trusty Rainsport 2s on for winter, they'll be going on soon. Plus I've acquired some rather tasty immaculate gloss black spiders for next summer too :-)

Hey All,

Its been a fair old while since I updated this with photos, and as I get ever further into detailing I wanted the right type of photos to show the car at its best. Recently I gave it a fair few hours of attention with some new detailing goodies, so while its still in fairly good order from that I dug out the camera and took the following snaps. I've popped the TT Comps back on for the decent weather, I still love these wheels. There are a few changes to the car which I'll mention with the photos.

The Infinity Basslink active subwoofer I had in the car sadly blew, so I popped to the guys at Source Sounds in Sheffield to see what they could do. The unit was beyond repair, and I'd always fancied uprating the speakers in the car anyway. I ended up leaving with a new system; consisting of a new Alpine head unit, a set of Rainbow Audio components up front, a Hertz amplifier and JL Audio subwoofer in the boot, with sound deadening fitted along the way. The guys at Source were superb, gave me exactly what I was after, maintaining the subtle approach to the car by retaining the OE speaker grilles and the components not being visible unless you look very closely with the doors open- the Rainbow logo can be seen on the cones through the grilles. Tidy little install, plenty of punch for my needs, and leaves adequate boot space too.  It sounds great, very pleased indeed.

Finally, the most recent change is the interior. I was fortunate enough to be able to acquire this interior from a Mk2 vRS in black and red, which really suits the car. They're comfier in my opinion, look far better and will of course alleviate my pain when it comes to keeping them clean. Great buy, and I'm very pleased with them. I've ordered a set of new vRS badges for the bonnet grille and tailgate, purely so they'll match (not usually a fan of it). In the first photo you can make out the Blackvue. From the exterior at a glance it looks like there are no seats fitted as they're so dark!

Future plans; well aside from trying to keep the finish in good order, I'd like a definitive answer as to what could be achieved with bigger injectors and more mapping at some point. No doubt the silver spiders will be back on at some point too.

As always, your thoughts, opinions and advice are all welcome.
