Coil Pack loom replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, I need a new loom for the coilpacks on my 1.8t 4x4 estate, I take it the one with for cars with the oil level sensor is the correct one? I am not sure on this.

And how difficult is it to fit? Do you have to remove the pins from the ecu or can i just solder new sections in?

Thanks :)

I asked about this last week too.

The answer was that the full replacement (the proper way to do it), is a big job for which most garages charge 2-3 hours labour on. However some people have just 'spliced' in new sections ..... especially as the loom tends to fail in the same area; around the coil packs plugs (and the section leading to them), where it's subject to a lot of heat.

Thanks for reply.

Ive stripped off the plastic on my current loom and its gone in many many many places. I taped it up as a last resort. I also get multiple misfires logged as an error code so im sure its the coil pack loom.

Did you replace yours or a garage?

I guess if im just spicing in then it wont matter if i get the one for oil level cars :)

My wiring doesn't look too clever (cracks insulation) and also had 'multiple misfires' logged.

The problem was the coil packs. Have these been changed at all or the plugs?

I bought the loom thinking it was that and still have it under my bed in a box. Been fince since.

Yes, I had the 'multiple misfired' logged on OBD2 as well (even though I could not feel or perceive and misfires while driving), and same as Liverpool-Lad, it was failed coil packs, rather than the loom. I do have cracked loom wires too though, and have not yet invested in a new loom - I've just individually patched and taped up a few wires where there were cracks etc. Awesome GTI do fit the looms too, so might be worth getting a quote. If you give your reg they will also confirm whether you need the loom with oil sensor or not too ...... but first suspect for "multiple misfires" is the acutal coil packs. Now I suspected the loom too, because I found it hard to believe that more than 1 coil pack would fail at a time ... but in fact 3 of my coil packs had failed at the same time......
