Central locking/drivers door lock not working fully

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just joined the forum and this is my first post, I hope it's in the right place.

Anyway, I have just bought an '07 fabia 1 (its a mk2). It has central locking but not remote central locking. The problem is that you can only unlock the doors using the drivers door, you cannot lock them. When you turn the key to unlock in the driver's door it is smooth and works fine, the key also springs back to the vertical position. When attempting to lock it isn't particularly stiff but it is not smooth and its a bit crunchy, also the key does not spring back to the vertical position. It seems like a barrel issue to me but before taking the door apart I thought it would be wise to ask those in the know. Is this a common problem? Does anyone know a solution? The locking and unlocking works fine from the passenger side.

I am also considering fitting some sort of after market universal remote central locking - does anyone know anything about these? Good or bad idea? Either way I would still like to get the lock working properly.

Regards

Greg

As you've just bought it, can't you go back to the seller and ask them to fix it, or was it a private sale?

Anyone got any ideas?

im in a similar situation with an octavia, although its the driver door lock at fault, it locks and unlocks but only if I'm very gentle with the mech, otherwise the key turns all the way round without unlocking. guess i need a new mechanism too :-(
