Engine Management Light Came on Today - Breather Pipe Split?

Featured Replies

EML came on today so as I don't have my code reader yet, thought I'd scout the engine bay for problems and came across a rather large split in pipe number 5 in the below diagram (a common problem so i've now heard  )

breatherdiagram.jpg

Could this be what caused the EML or am i looking at two problems potentially

Cheers

Probably. Mine split, as well as pipe number 4, whcih caused the EML to come on and dropped the fuel economy. I could hear it hissing when the car was idling.

I had the same hose go on mine, but no EML or fault codes.

Replaced it with a silicone one from creation Motorsport (cheaper than OEM) and all good now.

I'd replace it and get the light reset and see if it comes back on. Hopefully, that's all it is.

Word to the wise, I've found that when one hose goes on VAG cars, the others are usually not far behind, do you might want to change out pipe 2, 4 and 5 at the same time and have the piece of mind it's all good for the future.

Samco, forge or sfs hoses now do a full kit to replace ALL the crappy breather hoses not just the Y pipe on the 1.8t vag engine.

Can't remember which one did them but it's one of the above :)

Really? Is it listed under Audi, VW, Seat or Skoda or all of them? Cheers

I'm assuming it'll be in all of them as it covers the whole 1.8t range. It's about time someone started doing them especially for those that haven't or don't want to remove/simplify the pipe work.

I can't remember which one of the above it was, I caught a glimpse of it while browsing FB but didn't take to much notice.

Was then about to put a post up before I came across this as my engine management has come on today. Looks like I will be checking my breather hoses tomorrow then.

Bit of an odd coincidence isn't it

Yeh I couldn't believe it when I see that you had started the thread. I thought to myself what a coincidence.

Forge have a breather hose kit. as well as a silicone hose kit.

Also DPM Motorsport in the site section sell a turbo hose kit.

my top breather split and i got no lights come up.. im replacing all the pipes with silicone as i cannot be bothered to wait for the others to go,.

Sounds like a good idea at least it will give you piece of mind think I might do the same save kaap worrying about them.

KEEP can't spell lol

im hoping mine arrive this week.. seems forever since i have driven my beast!

Could anyone help me I've found an air leak in the pipe that runs down inbetween the inlet then in to a 'y' piece but what I want to do is replace it with a silicone hose but don't know what set of pipes it would come in. I.e breather ect. Thanks

Going off the diagram at the top of this thread, could you be more specific? i.e is it hose 'number 5'?

Neither of them ones on diagram at top I dont think its the little pipe that comes off the end of the inlet an it goes to the brake servo so the bloke at the garage told me then it goes over the top of the inlet then down inbetween the inlet in to a 'y' piece joiner if you have the plastic engine cover onyou can still see the pipe down the front its more of a hard plastic than rubber.

I'm struggling to figure out what your referring to bud. I'll take a look at mine tomorrow and see if I can figure it out- would really help if you could take a pic and upload it. Point to it in the photo if you think you need to. :)

If I had to guess, I think your talking about a vacuum hose (which is cheap and easy to source- iirc it will be 4mm silicone tubing which you can buy from fleabay etc by the metre).

He started another thread on this. It turns out he means the hose that goes from the junction on the right side of the inlet manifold and to the left then down between runners 2 and 3. The one that goes the the suction pump thingammydoodah!

Bubba did you get this sorted in the end - I replaced mine with a silicone jobby reset the light and its not come back on as yet so looks as though it may have just been that.

Also bubba if you want me to reset the light for you I have VCDS Lite now so can check for any fault codes.

Also sorry couldn't stop the other day, had the in laws round
