Drove a 75BHP Elegance Greentech

Featured Replies

I had a drive in my local dealers demonstrator yesterday afternoon.

It's a 3 door, 75BHP Elegance Greentech, in quite a fetching shade of metallic green.

It appears to be "fully loaded" with the stick on satnav/display thingy, panoramic roof, collision mitigation, greentech (stop start etc) and even heated seats.

I found it surprisingly roomy up front and thought it drove very well. In fact I'm sure it was quieter than a 1.2 TSi Fabia I was recently loaned whilst my CR Roomster was in the workshop. The new 3 pot engine is remarkably smooth and is certainly a marked improvement over the last 3 pot petrol I drove (1.2 HTP).

An impressive little car, although the one I drove would cost in excess of £11K.

(sorry about the quality of the camera phone pics)

Love that green, much nicer than the white but 11k.... ouch.

Interesting to note the front bumper appears, from these photos anyway, to suffer from 'Vauxhall' colour mis-matching :wonder:

Looks nice but for me I like the white in 5 door guise.

I see what you mean... though I wonder if it may be more to do with the shade of green. My grandparents used to own a Citroen C3 in a very similar colour, and that too had slightly mis-matching colours from some angles.

I drove a Citigo 1.0 75 Elegance Greentech yesterday too, at my local dealer. Black 3-door (sorry, forgot to take pics!). I drive an Aygo myself daily, and was interested to compare. Here's what I thought.

The Citigo was surprisingly quiet in comparison - there's a bit of a whirr sometimes (that's the 3 cylinders for you) which doesn't sound quite as characterful as the Aygo, but after a few minutes it became clear that the refinement is a definite improvement over the PSA triplets. Everything feels very high quality inside, from the trimmings to the way everything operates. There may be no soft touch plastics in here, but it manages to look classy. Having said that, it doesn't quite have the Aygo's fun factor as far as the design goes.

What really impressed me was the level of spec. I was surprised to learn that the Elegance comes with both the PID system (absolutely fantastic - it was showing me as doing 60 mpg at one point, rarely dropped below the mid 50s) AND heated seats. Very impressive level of spec. Even the lower-model SE comes well equipped, though I think that for any Citigo owner, that PID is a must. I loved it.

Ride quality was alright - bumps were very evident but it's a small car of course. It definitely lacked the 'poke' of the Aygo's engine to me - perhaps because the Citigo is slightly heavier and the engine has been optimised further for fuel efficiency, but it kept up with traffic well. Not sure how the 60bhp version would manage, though.

Overall I was impressed. I'd looked at an Up! previously (though not driven one) and have gone off the looks of it very quickly. The Citigo appears more classic, if a little dull, by comparison. Be interesting to see how the Seat Mii compares (after all, it's all down to the looks/price/value/dealers) but on first impressions and after a test-drive, I would definitely consider the Citigo as an option when it's time to trade in the Aygo some time next year.

I've seen both the CityGo and the Up! and I think the problem with the Up! is the ugly all-glass tailgate. Just looks a bit ugly and cheap TBH.

Completely agree. Ruins (if that is not too strong) an otherwise well resolved shape. The tailgate isn't just a piece of glass though (as with Aygo/C1/107) but has a proper metal tailgate frame over which the glass is fitted.

Should add that I have now seen an UP in black and it looks great. The tailgate no longer an issue when it all blends in at the back......
