Wheels spacers on vrs

Featured Replies

After fitting my kw v1's i noticed on the front the gap between the inside of the alloy / tire and the coilover unit is unbelievably tight, i'd say less than 5mm :o

So i was thinking about hubcentric wheel spacers all round?

Now a couple of q's, i was planning the brembo 323 conversion in the future! So what size of spacers are req for this?

Would 10mm hubcentric spacers all round suffice? Thats if you can even get 10mm hubcentric ones!?

Cheers

I'll be following this with interest as I've just been out and checked mine and its exactly the same. I've new tyres fitted and don't want to ruin them. Also where can you get these wheel spacers?

Wheel spacers can be had from ebay or some tuning parts websites, i think venom motorsport do them

You really want hubcentric ones, i prefer the ones with the extended bolts so there is no chance of stripping the thread on them, some are aluminium and bolt to the hub, then the standard bolts bolt to them but i think there quite rubbish tbh, i prefer the bolt through type (still hubcentric though)

If running brembos you need min 5mm spacers ;-)

I got some brmbos jas and a set of spacers ;-)

Dont people say 5mm guys ?

Although seen some pics of 15mm on front and 20mm rears in the journals, and looks very cool with the wheels out, would be nice if 20mm front and rear would go, as you could then buy bolt On spacers rather than have gert long bolts :)

H&R list 8mm which would clear for sure tho , and supplied with correct length longer bolts

Mine has a stud conversion rather than wheel bolts ;-)

Ah I see. Any liks etc as I have no idea which are the correct ones for my car?

spacers need to be hubcentric, dont bother with anything else, they will just wobble and cause all sorts of issues, generally lower than 15mm wide they are bolt through the spacer with longer bolts to the hub, generally over 20mm the spacer bolts to the hub, then you bolt to the spacer, some prefer this due to less stress on the bolts.

With brembos, i had to run 15mm spacers on the front to clear. With spiders its 5mm, its all down to the offset of your wheels.

Links please to what we need. Not just being lazy just want to make sure I get the right ones.

I have standard 312's with 18" rs4 reps. I can fit a piece of paper between the wheel and the shock so its now strictly touching but its very close so would 5m spacers be sufficient?

its not really down to that, though that doesnt sound ideal with how close they are to the strut?!?

its down to how the caliper sits inside the wheel itself, and how much clearance you get there, it really just depends on the wheel.

what i would say is there are lots of mk4 golfs running audi reps, and there are some threads on there iirc about wheel clearance with upgrade brakes. There was a guy called daveB on there who sold lots of kits who knew a lot about what fits what, have a search and see what you find.

One thing i noticed about reps in the past, is the casting can be bad on the inside, one set of rs4 reps i have were noticeably thicker on one wheel one the inside face other another....they went needless to say!

Sorry I'm not sure if I've explained myself properly. I only want to move my wheels away from my strut enough to make sure there is on rubbing. I'm not changing my brakes at all.

Sorry they are the best photos i have of them!

I'm only on the standard 17" Spiders.

Standard breaks!

And no rubbing what so ever!

But they give the car some serious looking "Stance" :p

ah i get you!

well without seeing your car none of us can really tell you, however 5mm should be enough, if you are worried, go for ten i guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wondered if you ordered your spacers in the end? I ordered mine today from GNJ Motorsport (a mate of Rob from W8 performance). I went for 5mm hubcentrics with extended wheel bolts for £44.00 delivered which I thought was pretty good.

Thats a good price!

Im in 2 minds, do i get some 7.5j wheels or space the spiders!

Swaying towards s3/tt wheels

5mms will do it. i just fitted 215`s up front and done away with any spacers due to the stretch. i run 20mm hc`s on the rear with no probs. (tho i needed the camber to have the wheels sit 2mm off the arch with no rubbing)

I have no idea what ofset my wheels are and only just fitted new tyres so spacers are my only real option I suppose. I've just been out to my car and had another look on full lock and the coilover adjuster is sooooooooooooooo close to the tyre its unreal but there are no marks on the tyre which is a bonus I suppose. I had to move my car earlier in the car park at work to put a double 10 ladder in the back and I could hear a slight rubbing at low speed so fingers crossed it will be ok till the spacers arrive.

you need some one with an arch roller... *whistles .... .. B)
