Front bumper clearance

Featured Replies

Howdy,

I currently have an Octy vRS and it can be a pain getting on and off the drive due to the low front spoiler. If someone with a Fabia vRS happens to be wandering around the front end of their car with a tape measure, please let me know the distance between the road and the underside of the spoiler so I can compare.

Cheers

It's not that simple - think about it a moment - what's important is what a 4x4 driver would refer to as the "approach" angle" - i.e. you have to take account of the distance the front extremity is away from the front "axle" line.

In the case of the Fabia vRS, the front edge of the front bumper is at about 23cm off the ground. There's also a fin coming down underneath to 17cm, but it's set back and, sighting through from bumper to wheel, doesn't appear to come into play.

The front edge of the front bumper appears to be about 82cm in front of the wheel centreline. So that gives an approach angle of around 15 degrees...

How does that compare?

Just slightly off topic, but can you do the same calculation for my 4X4 please, Dave?

Elementary mathematics - quote me the distances and I'll do the sums... :D

Probably not much help but I clear the angle on my parents' drive in my Fab vRS which my brother-in-law can't in his standard 02 plate A4 Avant.

Also remember that the height of the car will change depending on if there are people in it! ;)

(My wife says a couple of mill can make all the difference :D )

Jesus - I'm glad I've had beer or I wouldn't have stood a chance of understanding that explanation ;)

Thanks for the heads (or tails) up mate :)

So if you still want a response to your original query can you supply the relevant measurements please...
