Cololant temperature

Featured Replies

Since having a few thing changed, and one of the main coolant pipes replaces (along with new cam belt and water pump) i have noticed the temperature gauge rising above the normal 90 at times. It also seems to be getting to 90 a lot quicker that previously.

On checking the diagnostics I am getting error P1293 (thermostat short to positive). Now, the thermostat housing was replaced, but not sure about the actual thermostat itself.

Also, when the display on the dash reads 90, the diagnostics report the temp to be at 107. Is this normal? The fans on the radiator are spinning away, and the pipe to the top of the rad is hot, but the radiator itself is completely cool, almost as if there is nothing flowing through it?

When running, coolant is circulating as it is coming back into the expansion tank via the small hose at the top.

Is this likely to be a faulty thermostat, or something more sinister?

Cheers

What diagnostics are you using? If its vcds check both The ecu and dash as the temp sender has two readings, if they both match then the temp sender should be ok which would point to the stat being faulty and not opening

Change the thermostat could but stuck in the closed position or you may have an airlock in the pipes

The new thermostat was not working. Now replaced and all is working as it should.
