LED flashlight

Featured Replies

The handbook for my new Superb Estate says if I leave the tailgate open, the detachable LED flash light will go out after 10 minutes. It does not and actually stays on indefinitely, whether the gate is open or closed.

Can anyone tell me how to switch it off when in its mounting?

Press the button on it - does that work.

So the light is in the mounting on the right hand side and should go off after 10 mins of the boot being open? but doesn't?

Having looked at one today there are two sets of LEDs. There's the ones in the side that light the boot, and the ones in the front that come on when you press the switch. I would think it's the ones on the side that have the timer, do you mean these or the front ones?

Just checked the removable led torch in boot of my MY11 Combi.

The handbook does state that it goes out after 10 minutes, checking with stopwatch: Footwell lights and the two lamps in the boot lid went out after 9m57s. the removovable led torch was still on after 15m.

I doubt that this torch is in the same circuit as the footwell lights etc. as it is charged when the engine is running.

This one is on the passenger side, near the tailgate. I have tried the switch in all positions when demounted and it switches off as it should. As soon as I put it in its mounting, it lights up and stays on, whatever the switch position.

It is only on as long as the tailgate is open so why worry. It will stay on for over 24hrs on its own little battery when out of the car so won't exactly drain the car battery in a month of Sundays.

After re-reading the OP I suggest it is not in its mounting properly so thinks it is out of the car. The sideways facing LEDs come on when the tailgate is open but they do not activate when out of the car. If you can switch the forward LEDs on when it is in the car then either a) there is a fault or B) it is not seated correctly in its mounting.

Slightly off topic, but when I shut my boot and lock the car one of bottom the three sideways facing LED's comes on dimly and appears to stay on!

It stays on indefinitely when the tailgate is closed and the car locked. I'm sure it is not meant to.
