Symphony memory and SAFE mode.

Featured Replies

Hello all. I'm putting the original head unit back in at the moment. I thought I'd cracked it when the old unit fired up first time and Radio 1 came on. However, when I took the key out and tried it again, SAFE came up again. I put the code in, repeated the process and SAFE comes up every time I switch the stereo on.

Now, it's about 5 years since I looked behind the stereo and my memory isn't what it used to be. When I took the Becker head unit out, these were the wires I found. I plugged them in as they are, but there's no memory on the Symphony head unit.

I then took the extension block off, plugged what's below into the Symphony and there was nothing at all.

The extension block when off looks like this...

What am I missing? Is the yellow wire important? It says '12v Memory' on it, so I'm assuming that has something to do with it, but where should it go? Me and wires rarely meet, so any advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Andrew.

You'll need to switch the permeate live and the switched live over

Evening Raf,

Remember you are talking to a complete wiring numpty here. Do what to what?

What's confusing me is that no wires were switched over when I put the Becker in five years ago. It was just a plug and play. The only thing I can't remember is if I added the extra wiring in the third photo at the time.

Just fit it without extension block/adapter and it should be good

if your factory loom has not been altered the standard stereo should just work after being plugged in

it may take a minute or 2 but no code should be needed

I'll try again tomorrow, thanks.

No, nothing was altered at all. When you say a minute or two, does the Symphony need some time to figure out what's going on?

You will have to enter the code once more, but it will remember it after that.

Hmm. There wasn't any sign of life though when I tried it with just the three separate blocks. Maybe I wasn't doing things correctly. I'll try again tomorrow and get back to you.

Thanks for the help on the door by the way.

I've tried a few combinations on the Symphony, none of which are successful.

The extension block allows it to work, includung the CD changer in the boot, but it has no memory.

If I don't use the extension blocks, the Symphony won't even turn on to allow me to put the code in.

Again, I may be missing something, but I can't see what.

You seem to need the adapter so...

Find which pin is the permanent live. Do the check with the key out of the ignition.

Next find the switched live.

 Fuse number 42.....

For some bizarre reason, the Becker unit works without it. So, that's another things sorted.
