20,000 mile service exemptions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Haven't posted in a while, sorry bout that.

So I had my 2nd service last week (2010MY Fabia DSG) and have just bought the 2 year, £299 servicing plan, but the dealer said that:

1.) My brake fluid doesn't get changed until Year 3 service (I thought it was every 2 years)

2.) My spark plugs don't get changed until just before my service plan 'runs out' (car will be 3 years and 9 months old by then)

3.) My rear brake drums don't get cleaned/ readjusted until the same time.

4.) Same with air filter replacement.

Am I missing something, or just being a non techie luddite?

Thanks for considering,

lp

My Seat Leon manual says the brake fluid is 3 years for the first change, and 2 years after that.

The spark plugs, I always thought, were based on mileage. In my old Corsa it was every 40k miles.

With regards to filter placement, it seems that Skoda/Seat/VW dealers are always unsure as to when things should be changed. If you read their online service plans, the Air and Fuel filter should get changed every 20k, but if you speak to a dealer, they'll tell you it's every 40k.

My Roomster had its second service (second year of ownership - ca. 26.000Km on clock) about two or three months ago.

Brake fluids did not replaced. As stated at manual they have to be replaced after three years and then every two years.

Spark plugs are stated to be replaced at 60.000Km, so they did not replaced too. Maybe at next service.

Air filter should have been replaced but after removing it, dealer showed it to me and told not to replace it, even if I wanted to, as it was as clean as new.

A/C (cabin) filter replaced. You cannot believe what was on it...

Fuel filter replaced as stated at manual.

Then 24w6 directive applied.

Car runs fine since then.

Mine had the drums done at the 20k service.

I bet all the exemptions would need doing if you were paying full price for the service.

In my case dealer was the one who was insisting not to change the filter, not me. After I was demonstrated the new filter and the factory fitted one I saw that they were identically clean. 10 euros more or less is not a price to make a compromise.

I've just had my first service which was visual check over an change oil service pack or paying I doubt the process will be any different just a difference to you wallet

It's not really the standard I'm use to I'm just glad I'm not paying full price for it
