Front hub carriers!

Featured Replies

Are all octavia mk1 hub carriers the same? I want to get some new ones but the local scrappie doesn't have any vrs ones

doubt it, VRS brakes are bigger so carriers will be different.

all non 4x4 hubs are the same iirc, just the carrier thats different.

Ah blows that then! I wanted to get a pair of hub carriers then put in new bearings and hubs!

just to clarify, any vag mk4 golf platform hub (by hub i mean complete setup inc carrier and bearing) should work for you, as long as its not a 4x4 hub, as they are different (tho can be made to fit).

so golf, a3, leon and fwd tt will work

Thanks Luca that's what I needed to know buy any carrier powdercoat it and fit new hubs bearing then start to build up my new subframe!

imo you might aswell take your time and buy some second hand r32 ones and r32 lower arms etc ec and atleast its an upgrade at the same time as new bearings etc etc

find a local breakers with lcr or s3 etc in ;-)

some real bargains to be had with stuff like that as to them its just oem crap but to us it an upgrade !!!

no probs steve!

yes i agree with clive, if you are setting up your car for fast road driving now is the time to swap to a tt/r32 front end:>

As much as I hate to say it I had a lcr before my octavia and I hated the way it feels!! So I won't be changing to a lcr front end, I think if I didn't live on and use bumpy roads I would swap but not at the mo.

my bad, i read this totally wrong..

ill get back in my corner

er i dont think they are all the same some have the brake carriers fixed on the hub assembly

the ones with the smaller brakes i think

ps i should hav the setup fs soon

yeh the FS3 brakes on the little engine motors are fixed carriers. they are all part of the hub. there were on my pd115 bora before i changed them for the bigger 312s

the 288mm stuff has removable carriers, and can fit 312 just by changing the disc and carrier.

do they do smaller brakes than 288?

if they do, and the carrier is fixed, then the hub is no good, my bad. Not seen one of those setups, as i only tend to work on 20vt cars.

all the 20v cars to my knowledge, have at least 288, and their hubs can be used.

I think there are differences on the arm that the steering rod connects to also.

I cross threaded the guide bolt for carrier on one of mine and had to get a replacement, took a trip to a scrappie and they had 2 different ones all from different years and sizes of car, all had differences in the shaping of that arm. The numbers weren't easy to read, and at the time I didn't know what mine was. Looking over them I couldn't convince my self the geometry was identical on both of them, so I purchased both and left it to the fitting garage to choose the correct one.

when you get the hubs powdercoated make sure YOU mask off the areas of tolerance where the bearing itself is seated/pressed in,mask any thread holes for the carriers, where the wheel sits on the face of the hub,the wheel bolt holes and such like. dont rush it because powdercoat is very durable stuff and even using nitro morse (hint) and a drill with a steel wire wheel its a bitch to get off in places!!!

Don't worry mate I will be masking them up and powdercoating them myself.

  • Author

As I say I can only do small bits once the boss isn't about and very limited to colour as we only use black and brown.
