New Car Scratches

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed that new cars seems to get scratched by accident more than older cars? I don't mean deliberate keying but careless 'accidental' knocking with bags, luggage, shopping, car doors, children etc. I have managed to polish out most of the scratches gained to date but it does seem that there may be an element of envy which manifests itself in some people being deliberately 'not careful' when accessing cars parked next to a new one.

I have noticed this with the last two new cars I have owned and the accidents seem to diminish once the registration number is not "new"!

Yes, it is more the paranoia aspect.....I felt the same but 2 years on I am not as paranoid about checking for every little mark etc.

Also nowadays people are just pig ignorant, careless w*****s

Car body panels have got thinner with the use of high strength steels and paint is now water

based which for all it's virtues is softer and more prone to damage.

As you have said respect for other peoples property is on the wain. When did you last her of someone

owning up to accidental damage if they can get away with it?

Had incident(s) of lies told to avoid a claim on their insurance!! and ended up with 50/50 on the basis my insurance wouldn't fight it.

Were ever possible stay away from supermarket car parks but sods law still applies.

Not just supermarket car parks, my previous Golf V received a small bruise in the door at work; mind it was the worst car I've owned for being dent prone particularly the bonnet from road stones :S and only the other day I noted a tutor (who I didn't know) get out her car, slamming their door into the car parked alongside in the process

Oh paint wise then the wife's current Pacific blue Fabia is very easy to mark, paint appears very weak and its not easy to polish out without making things worse; shame as it's a very nice colour and a great little car overall.

Its the European way, having lived in both Spain and France, I used to get scratches all the time.

When in Spain it only took 2 weeks from new before I had to have major paint repairs, its not important to them, whereas in the UK we take pride in our cars.

Our cars maybe...not necessarily other peoples cars!!
