Anyone used them recently? Do they still do their cheap wheel deal? Still ok quality?

That is a resounding no then :D

If they were closer to me then I would of used them again for the TT instead of Lepson's,... what does that tell you?

That they're about 1/3 of the cost of a Lepsons job.

I had 2 sets of wheels done by CP in 2010 and both were appalling. Maybe they got better but I'm not risking the money to find out.

I know, but having been less than impressed with two separate jobs that Lepsons have carried out for me, my money would go to City Powdercoaters if they were more local to me.

The wheels they did have done two winters and they are still very good.

Its a bit far for me too but the first part of the plan was to find out if they were still ok.

I have a set of wheels where the paint is literally coming off the side of the spokes in sheets. They could do with dipping/blasting i think rather than just a DIY paint job.

I've also seen a couple of jobs from Lepsons that were not as good as you might expect them to be given their reputation.

I had one set of wheels done at City that were covered in lose powder that had stuck to all of the edges and needed a fair amount of work to sand the finish off the inside of the centre bore to get the wheel back on the hub. The second set was just as bad but as an added bonus, the lacquer on one cracked across the surface - I showed them to another company that said it could be bad luck but the finish couldn't have been right in the first place.

My money will always go to Rimfurbish from now on.

Never heard of Rimfurbish! I notice they do tyre fitting for £10 a corner though and not far from me! I have emailed for a quote for tyres so depending on the price i may mail order and just get them fitted there or get them to supply as i am going to need 3 expensive 18 inch tyres soon.

As for CP, i have heard nothing but bad reviews, just google them and you will see bad reviews across all forums.....Cheap, but cheap for a reason.

Look up some review of Rimfurbish. It's the refurb arm of Rimstock Plc, makers of OE wheels for the likes of Aston Martin, some Chrysler and also Team Dynamics and 100+ and the refurbs are done on the same line as new production.

I can only comment on personal experience with City Powder Coating, they did four 16" wheels for my Fabia vRS around five months ago (in silver sparkle no less), and I have just dropped off another set of four fitted with my winter tyres. Based on that, I'd have to say that I'm pretty happy with their quality and service.

At the end of the day, they do four wheels for £120 and that includes refitting and re-balancing the tyres. What you get for your money is, in my opinion, excellent. Yes you can probably get better quality work, but you'll pay considerably more for it. And no, I am in no way affiliated to City Powder Coatings, just a satisfied customer.

As a personal aside, I have never been overly impressed with the original quality of Skoda alloys - I've had three so far and all have bubbled and blown the alloy around the valve in under two years. On all other aspects, the best value cars on the road.
