Superb vs Octavia comparison

Featured Replies

I've had a Superb for 6 weeks now and have just given back a courtesy Octavia TSi that I've had for 2 days.

Its interesting comparing the two. The seats in the Octavia are more supportive than those in the Superb with much larger side bolsters. I suspect that the Superbs will be better over a long journey (which is what I use mine for). The economy from the engine (presumably the 1.4) topped out at 55mpg which I thought was excellent for a petrol engine. Pulling power off the line is virtually non-existant and much better in the Diesel Superb but as expected the petrol is much smoother.

I was left finding little between them, other than that the Superb is clearly bigger and better equipted and the Octavia feels more nimble.

I have to say I was quite impressed with the 1.4 Turbo engine, very smooth and still makes good power. Seems excellent value for money too, might have to see if my other half could be tempted...

I had an Octavia II VRS 2.0TFSI for a year, before that I regularly drove my father's 1.8T Octavia I and now I drive a Superb 2.0 TDI 140. The seats in the VRS were absolutely superb (no pun intended) and incredibly comfy even after long journeys. The 2.0 petrol engine was fantastic too but incredibly thirsty, even when driving carefully it used around 8l/100km. The worst part of the VRS was that it was continually in for repairs until I broke down on a business trip and had to be recovered due to a faulty injector...that's when I had enough and the company agreed to get me a Superb.

The 1.8T was not much better economy-wise, but the quality was fantastic...it had almost 300,000km on the clock and drove like brand new...a truly fantastic car!

I've had the superb for two months now and really like it...it sticks to the road excellently and the engine is gorgeous. It seemed a bit stiff initially but it has loosened up considerably after a few thousand kilometres and is lovely to drive. Not as quick as the VRS but the 140 TDI certainly doesn't lack power! And the plus sides...much cheaper to run: do around 5.7l/100 km now and before I did around 8.3 in the VRS...2.6l certainly makes a difference especially with fuel prices here (slovakia) at aroun 1.38 EUR for diesel and 1.52 EUR for petrol.
