back door stuck closed? do i need to smash the lock off?

Featured Replies

my 02 octavia has ofside rear door stuck in the closed position. after much trying, i have managed to remove the door card, cable pulls ok, external handle pulls ok, does not stick but obviously someting not allowing it to unlock.

any suggestions?

my plan now is to smash to unit off and try to release the door as the lock mechanism is secured by bolts only accessable with the door open.

does any one know if the unit is the same off side front and back? or different for for front and back. is it the same as golf, passat or any other VW?

any help is appreciated,

The deadlock is stuck, no amount of smashing or breaking things off will get the door open. You need to release the deadlock then the door should open.

cheers for the reply,

how do i release te deadlock then?

how do you engage it in the first place?

Golfs, boras, leons etc all use the same lock i thing and its sounds quiet a common problem,

Lad at work had a bora and one of his rear door locks died and locked the door shut, he managed to get door card off and get a screwdriver in and attacked back of lock to release deadlock and get door open to fit a new lock,

He said it was abit of a pain to do but it can be done without doing any external damage

I find I can usually release them by supplying a 12V supply to the door loom (if the supply wire is broken at the 'B' pillar) or applying 12V directly to the motor in the door lock.

Deadlock engages everytime you lock the car, its part of the security hence difficult to overcome.

If the motor is not too far gone, spray the mech with WD40 and press the unlock button n the key whilst thumping the external handle. When mine stopped working I managed to get it open this way and then soaked the lock with WD. It has continued working ever since, although I have bought a new lock ready to go on when I get round to it.

tried again today with no avail. the door is closed and stuck in the locked position. can anyone suggest anything other than attacking the solenoid part of the mechanism, as this looks like the only way to get the door unlocked.

does anyone know what pin on the mechanism to supply 12v to? three of the 6 pins going to it receive 10-12v but none of these values change when manually locking/unlocking from the control on the drivers door, making me wonder if it is receiving a signal?

i pulled the door card off the divers door and checked for the water ingress, it was as dry as a bone, so no worries there.

when unlocking with the remote, it only unlocks the drivers door, you then have to open the door and press the unlock to release the others, could this be caused by the rear being deadlocked?

determined to get there.....

Of the six wires going to the lock, it is the grey wire and the yellow wire that go to the motor. BRIEFLY connect 12V to these wires. If it doesn't work one way around then swap the wires. You will need to do it twice to release the deadlock.

It is possible that the lock motor itself is dead, but that is rare.

tried supplying 12 v to each and both the grey and yellow wire and nothing happens. i would now suspect the motor has given up? what does concern me is that the voltage at both the grey and yellow wires does not change when triggering the central locking. I would expect to see the voltage change from 0v to 5v or 12v when activating the CL from the drivers door control unit.

in two minds now whether or not to smash to back of the motor and lock off, or is there an issue with the loom further back?

To be clear...

Having disconnecting the plug to the box on the side of the motor, apply 12V to one of the wires and ground to the other.

all sorted, after stripping door card of other side to compare voltages etc...I checked for continuity between the B pillar and the window unit (big multi plug) the red and yellow wire had no continuity.

after removing the loom between the back door and the B pillar and puling off the black wrapping tape, it was clear that this particular wire was broke and two others (red and brown) were also on there way out. wires repaired and assembled and all working now.

so glad I did not attack the motor from inside and replaced with a new one!

issue now is that when using the RC to unlock, it only unlocks the drivers door, you have to use the drivers control panel to unlock all doors.

Mine has always done that, have you tried pressing once for drivers door, then a second press for the other three?

Sounds like you have selective locking enabled - if it is then second press to release is normal

My N/S/R door has locked shut and not able to open from in/outside. i've been reading various thread's related to this but how do you remove the door card when the screws are unaccessable when the door is shut?

undo what you can screw wise, remove the seat base/back if it helps

undo the screws that hold the door handle to the card to the door.

undo any other bits like speaker grill and internal screw (cant remember if its front only that has this)

then carefully pull card away, you may break the clips that go between the door and card, but you can get these from skoda and aren't expensive.

Disconnect puddle light (if it has them) before fully removing card from the area, don't forget the door handle pull will need the cable removed before you can fully remove the card

cheer's buddy

no prob dude, good luck!

perhaps get a replacement motor before you take the old one out, as you wont be able to lock the door once you have taken the motor out.

i have the same problem, power goin back fine the motor is dead, i just smashed the lock off, wasnt the easies thing to get out.. :(

I have a brand new (Genuine Skoda) O/S/R door lock for sale if anyone is looking for one.

Cost me nearly £90, but I'll take £60 for it.

So you had to smash your own back doors in......... sniggger sniggger   :bandit:
