Lights on buzzer?

Featured Replies

Ok, so every VAG car I've ever driven (mk2 gti, mk4gti, seat toledo, audi a3/4, mk3 polo) has had a buzzer when I knock the ignition off but have left the lights on. All except my mk1 octy.

Is this standard, a VAGcom tweak or is mine just broken.

Used to find it annoying, until I ran the battery flat the other day after leaving it in the works carpark for the day.

I'm too used to my old Volvo 850 T5 doing it for me!

Appreciate your thoughts guys!

Not sure about the Mk1, but I switched Coming Home Lights (CHL) on with VCDS on my Mk2 and then realised that the buzzer didn't work (except with parking light).

If you lights were on and the battery went dead, I suspect that this (if available on the Mk1) is not the issue.

mine buzzes dude. :)

My mk1 buzzes, but only if you exit via the drivers door.

When you lock the car does the red alarm LED start to flash? I wonder if one of the microswitches in the lock assembly has either failed or there is a dry joint.

Doesn't it buzz when you open the door with the lights on?

I didn't think you could turn it off.

With the lights left on, If I take ignition key out, open drivers door buzzer sounds.

Got me thinking now, Ill try exiting car by another door see if same thing happens.

Update: Can confirm buzzer only goes off if you open drivers door

Yes, should buzz when you open drivers door if key has been withdrawn from ignition. Is this the age old door lock micro switch failure? Search on this forum for symptons; briefly you might also find the interior light doesn't come on with the drivers door, or the open door light doesn't show on the dash again for the driver door. The buzzer itself is part of the instrument clocks circuit board. If the buzzer sounds when you drive with the handbrake on, or when you run low on fuel, it's not the buzzer that's the problem!

I get more of a "booing" from the dash for fuel, washer fluid and more of a "buzz" as a lights on reminder I think, so I wonderd if there were two devices.

Cheers for the replys guys!

Ive just twigged- when I first got the car, the door warning light was coming on when the door was closed and draining battery as the door light was on. I re-set the lock, but now the light is alway off, even when the drivers door is open.

Sorted the original issue, but caused a new one I guess. I'll try adjusting it again when I get a break in the weather.

Again, thanks for the info!

Bob.

Aye mine buzzes also just for the heads up. Annoying but a good feature i guess.
