Hmmm, Excellent as usual my man.

But Damn you! my drivers side bush has gone kaput! was wondering if there were some uprated ones, but a ton. damn.

saw a complete bush kit for whole car for 175, is that good?

Don't think you will get a subframe bush in that complete kit, typically they are for ARB, Rear Beam, Front wishbones and steering rack etc. Was it poly bush kit or OEM bush kit. If it was OEM you would need to ensure it was for a TT/LCR else you won't get the correct set, unless you prefer std..

mind you your bush that is kaput could be the wishbone one?

Sorry, yes mate, just looked again. my bad. yeah was polybush kit.

Is there any Uprated wishbone ones you would recommend? I think Castle Combe killed it.

superpro bushes, they offer castor adjustment bushes too which are a big plus if you are fitting tt wishbones

If you have std wishbones and are not overdoing it then a good upgrade is go for the Audi TT solid bush, heaps better than the Octy OEM voided bush. And cheaper than the powerflex ones that I have never been keen on. Or go for superpro none castor ones but twice as expensive as TT bushes.

If you have TT arms then as OET states superpro castor bushes all day long..

Tell me about it Rob.......

Rear brake springs is next on list (using the VW sharan springs) to force the brake cable back to home position better and stop brake dragging...

Have you got the balance kit on yours as well Bowders? I've already got the balance kit but was wondering if adding the springs also would help with the issue.

Cheers

Yep have got the balance kit on already and that did not completely cure brake mooing noise and dragging.

  • 2 weeks later...

What vibration was you getting before you fitted these?

  • 2 months later...

Back up,

Does anyone have a picture of the underside of a TT roadster?

I think I have found the brackets on ETKA for them to fit properly as this is just bracing up the subframe and its still wounted on the same 4 bolts.

I was getting no vibration at all. Only reason I changed subframe bushes coz I was getting front end knocking and thought it would cure it. The extra bracing is just another step to siffening car chassis

I do somewhere Billy and will dig it out. Think you will find you can't make the std TT brace fit to the std VRS without modding like I did.

There are extra bracket to the bars I purchased but these can not be connected without modding the car. Also there does appear to be earlier braced TT that hook up different, in that they have welded braces to the subframe and not further brace to chassis

Lovely write up as per usual. Would love to see your car one day! Question for you. Have you replaced the steering rack bush? If so easy to replace? Much of a difference? I find the octy steering a bit wooly at times and looking for a fix.

Bush wont fix it mate.

Need the tt rack imo. Feel is better and turn more positive. But still not awesome. Wrong car really.

Just so happens i got an s3 rack spare lol ;-)

Cheers, welcome to see car no problems. I am going to santa pod meet, think 14th Oct.

The steering rack mount is not too bad to replace but you will need to lower the subframe to get at the rack mount. A lot of work more than difficult. As Billy states don't think replacing that will give you any better steering feel. The 3.4 lock to lock turn on the VRS always makes steering a bit vague. Replacing the rack for a Audi TT/S3/LCR or Golf R32 one that is 2.6 turns lock to lock is the best mod.

bushing, suspension dampening rates, wishbone geometry and track width are the cause

The turn rate of the steering rack will only appear to alter this (because you are putting in less physical movement to correct drift)

TT wishbones plus lots of poly bushes, decent coilovers, wider front track and bit more front camber will give an Octy a very tight, agile and precise steering

An LSD adds icing to the cake ;)

sounds expensive!

i just got a shock going from my dads 07 plate 325 back to the octy at first. there just seems to be an incredible amount of play in the steering before anything happens

basically the 3 series is a really well set up car, the octavia is well....not. From stock there is just no comparison, even a well setup octy is gonna struggle against a 325 to be honest, the 325 is a different league of car, its not really a fair comparison.

I have to regularly compare my wobbly standard (mostly) vRS Estate to the wifes 56 plate E92 335i. I cry every time I get back in mine. Totally different league and one of the best sorted road cars there is IMO, although they could use an LSD for really hard use.

Oh, and getting rid of the $h!tty (and ridiculously expensive runflat tyres.

Ok that has assured me. i know theres a 6 year gap between the 2 cars but i wasnt expecting the difference to be that noticeable. still love the octy though - a fantastic car all round.

6 years and about £10,000 (and a whole lot more in the case of the 335)

Well I have just removed my subframe to change the steering and one of my bushes was so loose it was turning in the rubber!!! And I managed to just push it out!

Result. Wouldn't have been long before it'd start causing some real damage.

Yep but it comes at the wrong time cash wise!

Great write up man!

Every time I step out of my mates ek9 type r it makes me sad how less agile the vrs is but at the end of the day its a better all rounder!

Dunno if the 3 series is a fair comparison as rwd chassis will always have better corner entry (if not corner exiting) capabilities.

But it just means we get to have fun trying to make our cars better :-)
