1.9TDi losing power.

Recommended Posts

All cars should be driven to use the full rev range from time to time.

Definitely good for a TDI too. I always notice that after driving steadily for a while there is always a load of crap out the back when it's given some welly.

Hi, I have just bought a 56 octavia 1.9 TDi from an auction.

Jumped in, started the engine, I could tell right away that there was a problem.

I got onto the carriageway and suddenly it lost power.

I guess I probably have the same issues

So my question is, having only paid £800,

is it worth investing in sorting the car out which also has a whining sound which I'm guessing is a wheel bearing,

or put it strait back into auction and cut my losses.

All advice greatly welcome

Jason

It's entirely possible a bottle of Mr Muscle could fix your turbo - if that is the problem.

http://www.audi-spor...urbo-vanes.html   copied from Lofty's post.

The whining sound, very like a wheel bearing, is more likely to be "sawtoothing" on the inner edge of the rear tyres.  The original alignment spec has been revised and should minimise its re-occuring.

You can swop tyres end to end to see if the noise goes away.  Saw toothed tyres continue to make noise with the new settings, if it were mine I'd leave them on the front.

A decent specialist alignment place may charge in the £50-80 mark.  Somewhere with a Hunter type machine and someone who knows how to use it.

Is your investment worth another £100 or so?

Before you go in all spanners blazing check the air inlet pipe hasn't popped off.

It's the long thick black hose that runs up the left side of upper engine as viewed from front. It's held on by wire clips and may have popped off.

hi friends, i also have some issues with my skoda octavia 2006 model 1.9 TDI. It used to lose it's power sometimes on inclined roads in first or second gear but somehow becomes ok after sm pressure on clutchpad and accelerator. however it runs smooth in 3-5 gears and i have done 160 kmph on highways and decent mileage (around 22kmpl on highways). last week i drove this car for around 400 km and suddenly it started raining heavily and the car lost its power and turned off. after 3-4 ignitions it started but refused to move ahead in first gear like its dying. then i kept trying and it started moving slowly and after 1 hour of on-off procedure and 5-6 kms it came back to life but not fully. i reached my destination and parked it. next day, its starting but turning off again after 8-10 secs... can anyone suggest me, wht could be wrong with the car. thanks in advance

I guess it depends on the overall condition of the car and mileage etc.

If otherwise it seems a sound car then fix it up and you've got yourself a cheap decent car.

The problem could just be a clogged up turbo in need of cleaning.
